My 2019 Vision Board

Hey everyone!

I am back after a very long writing break. I just needed some time to recharge. I think I will write a post about it sometime soon but for now, we are taking 2019 in stride and talking about my goals!

img_3473

I decided to make a vision board because every successful blogger or Youtuber I’ve seen has made one. I thought I may as well make one. Not only to mooch off the success of way more talented people but also because maybe it will work? If I have to see what I want in life every day maybe it will kick my ass into gear to actually do things. We’ll see.

I also made a video of me making this vision board and explaining it if you want to see it. I also have a Youtube channel and would love if you guys checked it out. I posted every day during the month of December for Vlogmas this year.

Let’s get started on what my goals are for this year. At the end of December, I had an overwhelming feeling of need for change. I really wanted 2019 to be better than 2018. I was feeling motivated and like I had the world at my feet. I can do anything and all I need to do is set my mind to it.

  1. Going Vegan

One of my top goals for this year is to go Vegan. I have always wanted to go Vegan. I actually was a vegetarian for about 2 years and then I met my boyfriend. My boyfriend is not vegetarian so I ended up eating meat and meat products with him. I also grew up in a meat-eating family so it wasn’t much of a foreign concept. After eating not very healthy for the last few months I decided I wanted a change. I honestly believe going Vegan is better for you and so does my boyfriend so he is joining me with this goal. There are a lot of people that will disagree with me. That’s okay. I just have done research and now know that eating plant-based it just what I want to do in life. So on January 1st, it started. We have cheated a few times since starting but it’s mostly in terms of cheese haha. I knew it wouldn’t be as easy as going cold turkey but I hope by the end of 2019 we will be fully Vegan.

2. Mental Health

I had a rough time in my first year of college. I have talked about this on multiple occasions. I skip school and get sick a lot. I decided that I was not doing that anymore. I was tired of ruining my own chances in life. I decided that I was taking 2019 to heal myself. I am working on my anxiety always. I just want 2019 to be the year where I get everything under control. I am tired of feeling sick and like I can’t leave my home. I’m not saying that I will be perfect. I am sure I will still get days where I can’t leave the house. I want to make it less than last semester though. That is my goal! I also want to meditate more and do yoga. I want to be more in touch with myself and put my feelings first and needs first.

3. Weight Loss

I want to lose weight. This is one of the biggest new years resolutions of all time. I believe in my heart that 2019 is the year for me to heal myself both mentally, physically and spiritually. Eating better and focusing on my mental health are the stepping stones for weight loss I think. I am at the heaviest I’ve ever been. I actually talk about this in a blog post from a few months ago. I don’t hate how I look per se but I do feel unhealthy and would like to tone up.  So I got a gym membership (who am I kidding? I’ve been paying for it for 6 months and have never gone) and I stopped buying UberEats. Hopefully, by the end of 2019, I will be in a healthier space.

4. Travelling + Seeing My Bestie!

I didn’t get to travel much in 2018. Travelling is one of those things I love the most in the world but I don’t get to do it too often. My goal this year is to really take the leap and go on as many trips as I can. I actually bought a passport holder that I leave on my desk. I believe in putting out into the universe what you want. I want to travel so I bought a passport holder to motivate me to save and plan more trips. Travelling is also important because my best friend lives like over 8 hours away. I miss her so much and really want to make more time to see her this year. There is no excuse. There are enough days in a year to make something work.

5. “Don’t stop until you’re proud”

My quote for this year is the one above. I really want to make this blog and my YouTube channel a full-time income. I hate working for other people and really just want to be my own boss. I actually photoshopped 1000 subscribers under my YouTube channel because I hope that this year will be the year that I will finally be qualified for Ads. I keep saying that I want to prioritize my blog and YouTube as a business but there’s always something that gets away, you guessed it, it’s myself! So this year I created a what I like to call a “content creating schedule” I literally bought an agenda and started scheduling in when things need to be done. It’s keeping my accountable. I want to say it’s working so far, I mean this blog post is up isn’t it?

So those are my 5 goals or New Year’s resolutions or habits or whatever you want to call them for 2019. I thought this was the best way to jump into 2019 with new content for you guys! I will be seeing you guys every Tuesday and Thursday! I hope you liked this post. I would really love to know if you guys have any goals for 2019? Or do you not believe in making goals?

Also, if you want to hear more from me I would love if you subscribed to my YouTube Channel where I post every Tuesday and Thursday also. Like always my posts and videos always go up at 9pm eastern time! I hope to see you guys over there!

My Monthly Loves / September 2018 // Blogtober Day #2

Hey everyone!

It’s already the beginning of October. I can’t believe it. It feels like the month flew by. Since it’s the end of the month, everyone knows what time it is. The flood of monthly favourites are coming out. I have to admit I don’t have many favourites this month. I have been sick a lot and not really doing anything it seems like. Does anyone else get that way? If you’re not feeling well you kind of just don’t really do anything with your life? You just watch Netflix or YouTube all day? Just me?

I don’t have a lot of physical things this month I realized as I was prepping this post. I also only have 4 things to share with you guys. Sorry 😦

1.Bob’s Burgers

220px-Bob's_Burgers_promo.png

I’m pretty sure last month I talked about Archer. This month I am coming back with another adult cartoon. I have had a thing lately with adult cartoons. Bob’s Burgers is just easy to put on while I’m doing something else or just trying to fall asleep. I don’t know what I like so much about it but it just keeps me entertained. I’ve already watched 3 seasons. I find the characters relatable and funny. There’s something about it that reminds me of exaggerated versions of people I know. I recommend it if you’re into adult cartoon humour.

2. Fall Candles

IMG_2365.JPG

I bought these so early in September. I got them from Winners for 3,99$ each. They got me so excited for fall. I’ve been burning them so much not only for how good they smell but also the atmosphere they give off. Both my boyfriend and I like the lighting candles give during the evening in our room. Also, our place traps smells so badly and I hate Febreze. I feel like it’s too strong and I have a hard time breathing when it’s sprayed. So candles help a lot. Winners is a fantastic place to get seasonal candles. I will be picking up more soon.

3. Tati Westbrook

4c83ec6d-5d17-4e24-b8f3-9c92e9d10b9e-1.jpg

So I started watching Tati on YouTube this month. I think I just binge watch people for a month straight. I’ve done it with so many channels. For someone who is horrendous at makeup, I love to watch beauty gurus. I was also looking for new people to watch because I was over the drama that surrounds the beauty community. I found Tati and loved how drama free she is. I also love that she’s not about promo codes. She uses a lot of affordable makeup. Honestly, she is a breath of fresh air.

4. Tumblr

I am back on Tumblr! I have a Tumblr dedicated to fitness. Since my post about feeling a bit insecure about my physical appearance, you can read that post here, I decided to try and create more healthy changes in my life. I use my Tumblr to motivate myself.  I get food and workout ideas. I also love the community. You just have to be careful with the eating disorder triggering things on Tumblr. There is an awesome healthy community though if you’re just looking for that push. You can follow me at the-nerd-girl-health.tumblr.com.

So that is what I’ve been loving. What have you guys been loving? Have you guys ever liked anything I’ve mentioned in this post? I would love to know!

What I Loved in July // Monthly Favourites

Hey everyone!

We are officially back on the regular posting schedule. That also means we’re back on the regular posting topics. I think people are tired of monthly favourites but I’m not. I think it’s super interesting to see what people are into even if it’s for a short amount of time. I also set a goal to post a favourite every month for a year. I really want to be able to look back in a year and see what I was into over the course of the year. I always want to see if I’m still going to be interested in those favourites next year.

I actually recorded a video of all my favourites this time so less writing from me today and more talking. I really wanted to get back into filming videos again. I love making YouTube videos but I’ve been just a bit insecure. That and I made a whole post that is an open letter to YouTube that you can read here.

What are some of you guy’s favourite from July? Are you guys tired of seeing monthly favourites? Do you guys like seeing more YouTube videos from me?

The YouTube Conversation – Day #28

Hey everyone!

YouTube has been a huge topic lately with a lot of YouTuber’s coming out and saying it’s not like how it used to be. With Adsense cuts and a warped trending page, is there a way to become a profitable YouTuber now in 2018? So this is an open letter to Youtube about how they need to change.

It doesn’t take much to make a YouTube account and post your first video. Even the iPhone has relatively good quality and makes great videos. The problem that comes with posting your first video to YouTube is the courage it takes to expose yourself online like that. You are giving the internet, the world, ammunition to critique you and judge you for your opinions and flaws. Unfourtantly, there is another underlying problem with YouTube that has popped up recently that are outraging the YouTube creators.

Becoming a YouTuber has become harder than it ever has been with people uploading millions of videos a day. Everyone is trying to get famous. Regardless of it being Instagram famous, Youtube famous or even Twitter famous. People want their 10 minutes of fame. Even if that’s not what you’re in it for there are really cool perks for the people that have “made it”.

It’s almost scary to say how hard it is to get where you want to go with YouTube. It doesn’t help that YouTube is doing it to its own creators. Adsense is currently very low for a lot of YouTubers making it hard to make money. That is especially devastating for those who do it full time. According to them, there is an algorithm for how videos are shown up on the Trendy Page and when you make a search. To many YouTubers that is bullshit.

I have to agree with a lot of those YouTubers. They have no idea why some of their videos are not making all the ads that they should be. They also are scratching their heads as to why their videos don’t make it on the trending page when certain YouTubers are always there. There is also a conversation about TV shows and company YouTube pages making all their Adsense. It leaves the question of what are YouTube’s real intentions.

Though a lot of people have been scared to talk about this I am only but a small Youtuber and have nothing to lose. I believe with a full heart that YouTube has no interest in helping YouTubers build careers. I think that phase of YouTube is coming to a close. If you’re a small YouTuber and are hoping to make it your career one day the chances are low and it’s all about luck at this point.

I have been on YouTube for almost a year now full time, as in uploading every week sometimes even twice a week. Well, my YouTube channel has gone almost nowhere. It doesn’t matter if I am using key search topics or beautiful thumbnails or popular video trends. My videos go nowhere. The only people that watch my videos are my friends and family or people that just so happen to stumble on my blog or twitter.

It’s frustrating. I know everything comes in due time but sometimes I work my ass off and I don’t get the credit. There are ads on my videos that are run by Google which owns YouTube. This basically means that Google owns my videos and have every right to make money off them but I don’t. Nothing has angered me more in my life. Back in the day, all you needed was 20000 views to make money off your own hard work. The outrage when the rules were changes to almost impossible standards for small YouTubers fell on deaf ears of the YouTube community. I see YouTuber’s every day talking about leaving the platform for other ones in hopes of making the money they deserve.

I wouldn’t care if there were no ads anywhere near my video because then it’s fair game. I own my work and I have to work up to get ads. Google making money off my videos, now that is where I have a problem. There are problems with videos not showing up in on your subscriber’s page there are problems with ads being taken off perfectly acceptable videos there are problems with the trending page being an absolute lie, there are so many problems and YouTube just doesn’t care. They will do anything to make money off the backs of their creators even if it kills them.

I believe everyone should have a right to ads on their videos even if they aren’t making much or anything. The videos were created by people that put so much time and effort into their craft. Google didn’t do shit to deserve that ad money.

I just wish that YouTube would take their creators more seriously before everyone decides that it’s not worth it anymore. YouTube used to be a place of dreams and community now it’s about a money hungry company. I took a long break from YouTube deciding if it was really worth my time and effort just for a company to profit off of me. I decided to upload videos again only because I realized I missed it, I enjoy making videos.

So this is an open letter to YouTube asking them to reflect on all they are doing. To see that their creators are fed up with how they are being treated and maybe strive for a change in terms of their Adsense laws (Which are bullshit and the only person profiting is them). They need to remember that they would be nothing without their creators and it’s time to give back to them.

My Favourite YouTubers – Day #24

Hey everyone!

I think this is the most overdone post ever. So I thought I would do it cause why not? Here is a list of my favourite YouTubers and what I like about them. I would put myself first on the list but I don’t think that’s the point of this tag. Is it a tag? Anyways, if you didn’t know I make YouTube videos you can check them out here. Now for my favourites.

Zoella

Zoe Sugg is honestly my inspiration. I have been following her for years now. If I could do anything in life it would be able to do the same thing as her. I love her lifestyle niche. Though a lot of bloggers say that it’s not possible to have a lifestyle niche, Zoe proves you can. I can even get my boyfriend to watch her videos too.

Ellen Fisher

I love her family! She is the coolest vegan mom. I watch her for her recipes and found her through a friend. Her family is just so beautiful and I hope to be able to raise a family like her. I really want to homeschool my children because of her. My boyfriend and I also want to move to Hawaii.

Sarah Lemkus

I love her videos. Her what I eat in a day videos really inspire my own eating. I look to her for awesome recipes and vlogs. Her children are literally so cute. I recommend her if you’re looking for more vegan content.

RawBeautyKristi

If you’re looking for a not your average beauty guru then Kristi is your girl. Kristi is upfront and always calls it how it is. I find her reviews funny and awesome. She is so open and vulnerable with her viewers. That is everything I look for in a beauty guru.

Shane Dawson

I thought I would add Shane on this list. I have been watching his videos none stop as of late. I love how much he has grown as a YouTuber. I used to watch him back in the day and though I miss Shanaynay, I prefer his new content. I find him so interesting and honest. If you’re looking for relatable humour and just plain heart to heart, Shane is your guy.

So here it is, my favourite YouTubers. There are also a bunch of other Youtubers I watch of course. I just went with the people I always wait for them to post. If some of these YouTubers are your favourites let me know. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Summer Bucket List – Day #22

Hey everyone!

I know summer is halfway done and school is coming soon but I still have things I want to get done. I have one more vacation to take and plenty of sun to soak up! So, I thought I would share with you guys what my summer bucket list entails. I know this is a bit late but better late than never.

Go Hiking

I love hiking and I’m sad I haven’t gone yet. I’m hoping I will be able to go on a little hike on my next vacation. It’s just one of the best exercises and just basic fun.

Swim

I haven’t gone swimming yet! I know! We are getting a pool so hopefully, I’ll be able to go swimming then. I’m sure I’ll go swimming during my vacation too. I’m actually not a huge fan of swimming. I’m not sure why. It still feels wrong that I haven’t been in a pool yet even if it’s not my favourite thing.

Finish Moving In

I moved in in late May. We are still not done! We finished unpacking all the boxes but it’s just to finish organizing and decorating. I’m super excited to film a room tour when we finish. We are almost there and I couldn’t be happier!

Visit Montreal

I live about 40 minutes away from the city. There are so many things to do in Montreal, which I list in this post. I’ve been wanting to just go visit more often now that I feel comfortable travelling.

Visit a Farmer’s Market

I love fresh food! There are so many farms here in Quebec so why not shop locally. Shopping local is something that is actually very important to me. I prefer supporting people trying to make a living and feed their family than CEO’s that are fuelling their yacht.

Make More YouTube Videos

I have taken a long break from YouTube. I wasn’t feeling happy with the content I was creating so I decided to take a break. I wanted to refresh my content. I’ve also been posting on here every day and it’s been taking up a lot of my time. I think I’ve just not been confident so I gave up. I will hopefully be getting back to it soon.

Read More Books

I miss reading. I just don’t put the time into reading. When I was younger I used to be reading like 60 to 100 books a year. Now I’m lucky if I read one that is not for school. So I’ve been setting aside more time to read.

Get A Tattoo

I have been wanting to get a tattoo for like a year now. I think I just don’t find the time to do it. I don’t think about it or forget so it never gets done.

Lose Weight

I have been on a weight loss journey since September. So I’m just trying to stay motivated to continue. I will probably make a post about this at some point. I want to dedicate a whole post or video to my weight loss journey.

So here it is, my bucket list. What are some of you guy’s summer bucket list ideas? Are some of mine on your list?

“Creativity Takes Courage” – Day #13

Hey everyone!

I thought I would use a quote to prompt today’s post. I am currently studying in the Art field and I took a quote from someone we actually studied, Henri Matisse. Matisse is a French artist that was known for using bright colours and sculptures. I took his quote “Creativity Takes Courage” to talk to you guys today about taking risks and putting yourself out there.

It took me about two years before making this blog and deciding to dedicate myself to it. I was always just too scared of what people would think. I knew that I wanted to put myself out there and I wanted to blog. I knew I wanted to make YouTube Videos too. I just was too scared of the people I know judging me. I have since learned that they are my biggest supporters.

I think being a blogger or a YouTuber takes a lot of courage. You have to put yourself out to the world and hope that they receive you in the way you are hoping for. You also sorta give up a bit of your privacy because you talk about your life. Being a creative person is giving the world a side of you that you would otherwise keep to yourself.

Regardless if you are a blogger, YouTuber, painter, sculptor, writer, etc you are brave. You have taken the first step to being vulnerable and exposed. I think it is the most beautiful and impressive thing you could ever do.

I hope you guys start taking more chances even if you are scared. Wear that dress, or paint that picture or write that blog post. Do something that scared you just a little bit because those are the things that make us the happiest in the end.

My courageous act of creativity is writing a book. I’ve been trying to write more often and that has been really something I’m insecure about. I’ve always written but I never finished anything because I always felt like I wasn’t good enough. Now, I’m trying to push past that and just continue writing.

What are you guys acts of courageous creativity? I would love to hear what you guys are pushing yourselves to do.
