The YouTube Conversation – Day #28

Hey everyone!

YouTube has been a huge topic lately with a lot of YouTuber’s coming out and saying it’s not like how it used to be. With Adsense cuts and a warped trending page, is there a way to become a profitable YouTuber now in 2018? So this is an open letter to Youtube about how they need to change.

It doesn’t take much to make a YouTube account and post your first video. Even the iPhone has relatively good quality and makes great videos. The problem that comes with posting your first video to YouTube is the courage it takes to expose yourself online like that. You are giving the internet, the world, ammunition to critique you and judge you for your opinions and flaws. Unfourtantly, there is another underlying problem with YouTube that has popped up recently that are outraging the YouTube creators.

Becoming a YouTuber has become harder than it ever has been with people uploading millions of videos a day. Everyone is trying to get famous. Regardless of it being Instagram famous, Youtube famous or even Twitter famous. People want their 10 minutes of fame. Even if that’s not what you’re in it for there are really cool perks for the people that have “made it”.

It’s almost scary to say how hard it is to get where you want to go with YouTube. It doesn’t help that YouTube is doing it to its own creators. Adsense is currently very low for a lot of YouTubers making it hard to make money. That is especially devastating for those who do it full time. According to them, there is an algorithm for how videos are shown up on the Trendy Page and when you make a search. To many YouTubers that is bullshit.

I have to agree with a lot of those YouTubers. They have no idea why some of their videos are not making all the ads that they should be. They also are scratching their heads as to why their videos don’t make it on the trending page when certain YouTubers are always there. There is also a conversation about TV shows and company YouTube pages making all their Adsense. It leaves the question of what are YouTube’s real intentions.

Though a lot of people have been scared to talk about this I am only but a small Youtuber and have nothing to lose. I believe with a full heart that YouTube has no interest in helping YouTubers build careers. I think that phase of YouTube is coming to a close. If you’re a small YouTuber and are hoping to make it your career one day the chances are low and it’s all about luck at this point.

I have been on YouTube for almost a year now full time, as in uploading every week sometimes even twice a week. Well, my YouTube channel has gone almost nowhere. It doesn’t matter if I am using key search topics or beautiful thumbnails or popular video trends. My videos go nowhere. The only people that watch my videos are my friends and family or people that just so happen to stumble on my blog or twitter.

It’s frustrating. I know everything comes in due time but sometimes I work my ass off and I don’t get the credit. There are ads on my videos that are run by Google which owns YouTube. This basically means that Google owns my videos and have every right to make money off them but I don’t. Nothing has angered me more in my life. Back in the day, all you needed was 20000 views to make money off your own hard work. The outrage when the rules were changes to almost impossible standards for small YouTubers fell on deaf ears of the YouTube community. I see YouTuber’s every day talking about leaving the platform for other ones in hopes of making the money they deserve.

I wouldn’t care if there were no ads anywhere near my video because then it’s fair game. I own my work and I have to work up to get ads. Google making money off my videos, now that is where I have a problem. There are problems with videos not showing up in on your subscriber’s page there are problems with ads being taken off perfectly acceptable videos there are problems with the trending page being an absolute lie, there are so many problems and YouTube just doesn’t care. They will do anything to make money off the backs of their creators even if it kills them.

I believe everyone should have a right to ads on their videos even if they aren’t making much or anything. The videos were created by people that put so much time and effort into their craft. Google didn’t do shit to deserve that ad money.

I just wish that YouTube would take their creators more seriously before everyone decides that it’s not worth it anymore. YouTube used to be a place of dreams and community now it’s about a money hungry company. I took a long break from YouTube deciding if it was really worth my time and effort just for a company to profit off of me. I decided to upload videos again only because I realized I missed it, I enjoy making videos.

So this is an open letter to YouTube asking them to reflect on all they are doing. To see that their creators are fed up with how they are being treated and maybe strive for a change in terms of their Adsense laws (Which are bullshit and the only person profiting is them). They need to remember that they would be nothing without their creators and it’s time to give back to them.

Picnic – Day #7

Hey everybody!
It’s a beautiful Friday evening here and my boyfriend and I decided to have a romantic dinner. Since the budget is tight like I talked about yesterday, we decided to sorta stay in. I’ve been wanting to go on a picnic since summer started. To me, there is something just relaxing and romantic about a picnic.

IMG-1719

Nothing is better than a free outing. The park close to my place is also very beautiful. There’s a lot of trees and shady areas perfect for a picnic. The park was also super quiet, there was only one other family playing on the swing set. It was a great place to talk.

img-1716.jpg

I made some spaghetti with his mother’s secret sauce. She was sweet enough to make us like 5 meals worth when we first moved in. It was delicious.  Also made some kale chips that were a fail. I added too much seasoning and it was like eating pure salt. Who knew that you could have too much seasoning? For dessert, I made a pineapple upside down cake. I’m a chef!

I can’t wait to see you guys tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make longer posts soon. I wanted to share my trip but quickly realized I didn’t have much to say.

Mental Health Awareness Month // 2018

Dear Everyone!

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month in the USA and I thought I would talk about it. For all of you who know that I live in Canada, our celebration of Mental Health Awareness is actually from September 30th to October 6th, 2018. Even though we are aren’t technically talking about it here, there is never a bad time to talk about mental health. Talking and sharing our struggles with our mental health is very important to keep the stigma and stereotypes away.

I thought I would share a bit of my story briefly and I have a few words for everyone struggling with anxiety. I have anxiety basically my whole life and it has kept me from doing things for a very long time. It has been a big problem in my life and as of last year, I have started to tackle it head on and make sure I am in a better mental space. If you want to read more about my anxiety I have two posts about it where I talk about it and then an update a few weeks later.

Anxiety has been such a big part of my life and it took me a long time to realize that I am not my anxiety. Anxiety is something that makes me feel like I am not in control of my own life and no one should have to suffer from it. For all those who are wondering, I am not medicated and that is a choice that I have made for myself. I don’t have anything against people who are medicated but I just don’t believe in it for myself. From watching some of the people I am close to, to research I have determined that it was better to fight anxiety rather than mask the symptoms of it. For everyone who does take medication, there should be no shame or stigma towards it. I don’t believe in shaming anyone for taking medication to help.

I have also struggled with depression in my life and I do want to tell people it gets better. I know that sounds cliche and even wrong but it does. I think things got better when I realized that it was for me to make a change not the world around me. I think one day I just woke up and said I didn’t want to be depressed anymore and I was willing to do and change whatever it was I had to change so I wasn’t feeling the way I was feeling any longer. I cut out people who didn’t make me happy, I stopped doing things that made me sad and focused on the positive and just changing my mindset on life. I had an easy time and really transformed my life out of sheer willpower not everyone can do that I can recognize that. Keep fighting and doing what you are doing to feel better.

I think the most important thing that people who don’t suffer from mental disorders is that we who suffer are not our disorder. We are not anxiety or depression, etc. My anxiety can make me a who different person than who I really am. When I am getting anxious and having panic attacks it’s not because I want to it’s because something is wrong with my brain.

I really hope that people can come forward more and talk about how they are feeling without fear of judgment. My blog is a safe place to talk and always will be. If you ever need someone feel free to email me at collectingglitter@outlook.com or through my contact page.

Much love,

What I Loved in April // 2018

Hey everyone!

I am late, like always. I am the worst of getting these monthly favourites up. I think it’s because I don’t really think about it during the month. I just do and like things but don’t keep tabs on them. Oops. It’s here though as expected. I am really happy to talk about what I’ve been liking this month. I don’t have much to share but these things are still worth sharing in my eyes.

1.HGTV

So I am a sucker for home renovation, house hunting and Caribean Life shows. I just love home design so much! It also might have to do with the fact that I am moving soon. Whenever I move I feel the sudden urge to get my interior design on and think up all the ways I want to decorate my new place. I am moving in with my boyfriend for anyone that is wondering. It’s a new and exciting journey for us and I am so excited. Okay, back to the monthly favourites. I have always been a huge fan of HGTV it just seems when this season comes around I feel more motivated to watch. I don’t know why! I just feel like late spring/early summer is the most motivating time of the year.

2.Instagram

For all those who don’t know I have been posting almost every day on Instagram for about a month now, so beginning of April. I am actually really enjoying it. I have never been on to post much on Instagram. (I was really bad at it shhh) I just have now found a theme that I love and am enjoying! If you guys don’t follow me on Instagram, I talk about my life and post weird pictures! I have also really been wanting to up my Instagram traffic so that I can grow more of a following here on my blog. I am the worst at using social media to promote myself, It’s a problem. Maybe I can add that to my summer goals, try being more active on social media every day. Bare with me you guys I am no blogging guru just yet.

3. Essential Oils, Lavender and Sandalwood, Body Wash – Bath and Body Works

I have a new body wash! I bought it at the same time I made my Christmas Bath and Body Works and Lush Haul from Blogmas! I have been really loving this guy. I smell amazing and it leaves my skin feeling super smooth. I have been pairing it up with the skin oil from the same collection. For whatever reason, my skin has been all over the place. I have never had this much acne in my life and I never wash my face. I have always been blessed with relatively clear skin. I get one big pimple during my period and that’s it. Now I have had really bad acne and I am trying to figure out why. I’m starting to get suspicious of the weather! All that to say that the rest of my body has been pretty dry so this body wash has really helped me out, I highly recommend it. Just a little btw I have sensitive skin that reacts to literally everything and I have never had a problem with Bath and Body Works products, also they’re cruelty-free!

4.Fresh Fruit

Last but not least food. This wouldn’t be my monthly favourite if I didn’t talk about food of course. I have been really loving fresh fruit. This is actually not a new thing or something that is super surprising about me. I just thought I would mention it in this favourites. I have also just learned how to cut a pineapple and I am so proud! I have been eating pineapple, mango and any other fresh fruit I can get my hands on. I am doing a “Fast” today to jump start my diet and this post is making my stomach growl. I have no idea why I was convinced a fast was a good idea. (According to my research it’s not bad every now and again)

Well, here you have it, my monthly favourites! I know this wasn’t the most exciting post to read, I’ll try harder to be more entertaining next month. I promise. I usually have a YouTube video to go with but for whatever reason my camera has decided to act up so I couldn’t film 😦

A Trip to The Art Museum

So I am the worst vlogger so I decided to write a bit more about my trip here on my blog. I had to go to the art museum again for school in the city. I was lucky enough to have my boyfriend here this week so I dragged him along.

We woke up to lots of rain but that didn’t dent our plans. For all those who read my anxiety post, this will be a mini update for you guys. I had no anxiety taking the train today, not even a little bit. I had to tell my boyfriend what to do so I think that’s why I wasn’t nervous. Also, my boyfriend keeps me calm. He is very much a go with the flow kind of person. If things go wrong, there’s always a way to get out of it. His presence just makes me feel safe. I love that he can be my anchor without him even knowing or trying. It’s good to have people around that make me feel good.

We had to walk on one of the businesses streets in the rain. It was miserable, to say the least. As much as it sucked I do love visiting the city. When we saw the museum in the distance it was like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

When we went to buy our tickets we found out the worst news, the majority of the museum was closed. Now, I had to go for a project so that really angered me. It took us all about 20 minutes to look at all 20 pieces. It was gorgeous but a “waste of time”. We giggled about it after and went to go eat.

All in all, it was a fun little day with my boyfriend. Even if the museum was a waste and not as grand as I thought it would be I love spending time with him. We laughed a lot and were soaking wet.

Earth Day 2018 – 18 Things You Need to Start Doing Now

Happy Earth Day everyone!! Today is a very important day that we need to take more seriously. Global warming is happening we are the only thing that can save our Earth. I made of list of 18 things you need to start doing now. With no further ado the list:

Let’s End the consumption of plastic

  • Platic is ending up in our oceans so quickly there’s an island made entirely of trash. This should make you made and if it doesn’t you aren’t listening. Plastic is a huge polluter and is destroying our environment. Animals are eating plastic killing them. Stop buying things that are made of plastic or wrapped in plastic. Take a stand and demand companies use less plastic. If you do purchase plastic make sure it’s disposed of properly.

garbage-2729608_1920.jpg

Let’s stop eating meat and other things that pollute the earth

  • As much as people don’t want to be told they should stop eating meat, it’s true. The production of meat is one of the biggest pollution culprits. The amount of water wasted just to take care of these mass produced animals is horrific. The mass production of animals also has devastating effects on the planet let alone your health. We also over fish our sealife leaving certain species unable to repopulate. It’s time to start thinking of eating less meat.

Let’s take care of our environment

  • I remember last year there was an article that went up saying that the Great Barrier Reef was officially completely dead. I had never been so scared. The Great Barrier Reed, the Amazon and many other natural features of this earth are slowly dying because we don’t take care of them. The Amazon keeps getting torn down (for the production of meat by the way) and the Great Barrier Reef is almost dead. A lot of wildlife depend on these places existing and people stopped caring.

Let’s shop locally and start upcycling

  • Stop buying from large companies, they do not have the environment in mind. They are using children in poor countries and tearing down forests for their own gain. When you buy from a large chain you are giving money to the CEO to fly their private jet on vacation when you buy from local companies you are helping a family eat that week. Always support your local stores and vendors. Also, buy things second hand and donate. This helps so much in diminishing the amount of waste.

hand-3318035_1920.jpg

Let’s take a walk

  • Stop driving places that are 5 minutes away. Take the 20 minutes to walk there. You won’t be wasting gas and polluting the environment and you will get some good exercise in. Walking or taking your bike is always the best way to go. If you can walk there don’t take the car out.

Let’s stop wasting water

  • Take fewer baths and shorter showers are always the top thing recommended it. If that doesn’t interest you just turn off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth. Also, make sure nothing is leaking in your house, that can waste gallons of water. Like mentioned earlier eat less meat. It is predicted that we will run out of drinking water. Don’t be someone that helps that come earlier than it has to.

Let’s pull out those recycling and compost bins

  • Recycle everything you can. If it doesn’t have to be thrown out reuse it. Don’t throw food in the trash but rather in the compost. I don’t even think I have to explain why you should recycle and compost. I think this is on the of the more obvious things you should do.

wheelie-bin-2270582_1920.jpg

Let’s get involved

  • Join a local or worldwide organization that is fighting for our environment. Also, a lot of organizations like Greenpeace are very active on social media, make sure to see what they are up to. Just staying up to date on what these groups are doing keeps you aware. If they are doing something local always get involved. Sometimes you have to boycott companies or plant trees but it’s worth it.

Let’s turn those lights off

  • When you are leaving your home for the day make sure the lights are off. It’s a waste of energy and can break the budget. Another good tip is to change your light bulbs to energy efficient ones. Light bulbs release heat that can make the home warmer causing the air conditioning to go up. It’s important to keep all these things down.

Let’s bring our bags to the supermarket

  • I live in Montreal where a law passed that companies will no longer be allowed to give out plastic bags you have to bring your reusable bags. Like mentioned earlier plastic is horrible for the environment. So stop getting them at the supermarket and just bring your own bags. Bringing your own bags reduces the amount of plastic you are using. You can even get your own fruit and veggie bags so you don’t have to use the plastic ones. If you live in Canada like I do it saves you the 5 cents per bag you have to pay for the plastic ones.

Let’s use our local transit

  • Local transit is there for a reason. Using a bus or train saves however many people can fit on a bus from driving their own care. That makes a huge impact at the end of the day when it comes to gas emissions. If you can try and see what your area offers in terms of local transit. I use the bus every day instead of buying my own car. I am lucky to live in an area that allows me to do that. If you don’t need a car, don’t use one.

gleise-1555348_1920.jpg

Let’s make a garden

  •  Grow some of your own food so you don’t buy them from large chains. This helps save money and the environment. Creating more plants helps with H2O emissions. It all falls back on not buying from large corporations that do some very un-eco-friendly things to get their fruits and veggies. Also buying produce locally or having your own means less travel for the food. They don’t have to cross oceans on boats or fly in planes or travel by truck. That means less carbon footprint.

Let’s plant some trees

  • Much like the last point, plant some trees. It’s not that hard to buy some trees and put them in your backyard. Maybe you want some more privacy instead of buying a plastic fence put in some plants. There are also a bunch of groups that go out and plant trees. The more trees are cut the down the less H2O we have. It’s important to replace what is being taken down. If you can do your part, you should for sure try.

Let’s not waste food

  • A lot of food is thrown out every year for no other reason than it doesn’t look pretty. Food that is either too small, too big, ugly, etc is wasted. There are programs to collect that food and sell it at a reduced price. At least it won’t be thrown out. It’s better to buy things that don’t look how they should but taste the same than throwing it out. I do know the store I work for does sell “ugly” fruit and veggies at a reduced price. More places should be doing this. If you’re interested I really suggest taking a look at HungryHarvest.net. They send boxes full of reject food to you. You get to choose how much you want. It’s different every week. Unfourtanitly, there are no similar companies here in Canada, which makes me really upset.

market-3336244_1920.jpg

Let’s check the ingredients in our makeup

  • Natural makeup is becoming more and more popular with more people wanting to know what is in their makeup. There are a lot of toxic ingredients that can be found in makeup that is bad for you and the environment. If you can’t read the ingredients it’s probably not great for you. Palm oil can be found in a lot of makeup products. To get palm oil a lot of orangutans, elephants and rhinos are affected by this.

Let’s stop overconsuming

  • Overconsumption is one of the biggest things North America and Europe is plagued with. We just keep buying. Overconsumption is bad for our environment. It’s time we stop buying things we don’t need just to fit in. You don’t need those things and they always end up laying around when they aren’t cool anymore. We have a problem with things like clothing and interior design going out of trend as quickly as in comes in. Don’t fall into the trap.

Let’s say no to junk mail

  • Say no to junk mail. Just call up the companies that are sending the mail to you and say you don’t want it anymore. There are also a few companies that help to get junk mail to stop being sent to your place. Junk mail is a waste of paper and gas to be sent to your place. It’s one way to cut down on your paper use and carbon footprint. If you can junk mail to stop showing up at your door I highly recommend it. Also if you can switch some of your mail, like bank statements, to online it will change your life.

spam-964521_1920.jpg

Let’s reuse those batteries

  • Last but not least buy reusable batteries. This is something I have switched too and I didn’t really know why. All the environmental activists were telling us to switch so I did. I then did my research to see what the real reason behind the switch. There are chemicals in batteries that are very toxic, a widely known fact. When you just throw out batteries in the trash those batteries break and can end up in our water and in the ground. It poisons the earth. So it’s better to get batteries that can be recharged so you don’t have to throw them out.

So here are 18 things you guys need to do now to save the environment. I would love to hear any other suggestions you guys have or what you guys are doing to save the environment.

Top 5 Tips for What to Do When You’re Sick

Hey everyone!

I decided to make this post because I have just started to get over this cold/flu that I had. I was super sick for the last couple days. I really took a break and tried to focus on getting better. I wanted to share with you guys my best tips for getting over a cold. This is the first time in my adult life I think that I have been this sick. It was a bit scary at times and I wanted to share everything I’ve learned so you guys are prepared. If you guys are facing a cold right now then I hope you start feeling better soon. If you just stumbled on this post hoping you won’t get sick anytime soon, I wish you so much luck you have no idea.

1. It’s okay to take time off

This is something I have a hard time with. I feel like when I take days off I am abandoning my responsibilities. I ended up not going to work two days in a row and missing one day of school. I have never taken off that many days in a row. I usually am the type that will give myself a day and then force myself to get back to real life. This time I knew I had to do what was right for my body. I didn’t have enough energy to be doing anything other than being in bed watching Netflix. I am here giving you permission to take off as many days as you need. I was actually overwhelmingly surprised with how much my job and teachers were understanding. I told them that I was really sick and not doing well and they just all told me to take the time I need to get better. I even took the week off from making Youtube videos. I just knew I didn’t have the energy to put into them that I usually would. I rather take the time to heal my body rather than force myself to get things done and risk getting sicker.

2. Drink lots of water

This may seem really strange for some but drink a lot of water. When I was sick I became very dehydrated very quickly. The leaky nose was taking up all my fluids it seemed like. If you are throwing up this is also a very important step. Your body needs to stay hydrated if it doesn’t it can make you sicker. I know a lot of people hate water for whatever reason. (I really like it) Drink warm tea can help if you don’t like water. I was not drinking water for a bit or eating so I had to force myself to drink water. The hydration gave me that little bit of energy I needed and kept my temperature down. I am no doctor so I can’t tell you if this is actually a medical recommendation but it did work for me. Also drinking water can’t do any harm so it’s worth a shot if you feel like you aren’t doing too hot.

3. See a doctor

Now I didn’t end up going to the doctor so, do what I say not what I do. It’s worth the trip to the doctors sometimes. They can give you prescriptions that will make things better a lot quicker than Tylenol. I know seeing a doctor is not a luxury everyone has. I do recommend it though if you have that option. I didn’t go because I really didn’t feel like sitting in the clinic for hours waiting. Here in Canada, yes the health care is free, but it’s not exactly quick or on demand. I would have for sure gone if I felt like I couldn’t handle it anymore or if I really felt like I needed medical assistance. You can feel when your body needs help, listen to it. Unless you’re a doctor there is only so much you can do by yourself. Ask help from the people who know what they are doing. The flu can kill you. (Not to scare anyone) Yes, people die every year from the flu, mostly children and the elderly. According to CNN you are more likely to die of the common flu if you have pre-existing conditions like heart disease, lung disease or diabetes. The flu can result in pneumonia or sepsis. Just be aware of how you are feeling and don’t let a small cough mutate into something deadly.

4. Take your medication

Even if it just Tylenol take the medication it helps. Even if a lot of my symptoms were not “cured’ by unprescribed medication at least one of the ones that made me the most uncomfortable went away, my headache. My sinuses and ears were infected which caused me to get very bad headaches. The pressure of the stuffed nose and blocked ears would cause my head to be in searing pain. I was all up in my room like Harry Potter holding his scar. The best thing that I did was take my Advil, Tylenol, generic brand pain reliever to get rid of that headache. It makes everything else more manageable. It’s easy to forget or feel like it’s not worth it but honestly, just do it. I know there are people who don’t believe in medication, that’s okay. You don’t have to take this tip but it really did help me.

5. Sleep

Get your rest. I slept all day and I didn’t feel guilty. It felt so good to just sleep. That could also be because I don’t usually get the right amount of sleep so I’m always exhausted but I was so happy. I do find that I am more tired when I’m sick. Just today when I had to wake up for school I got the same amount of sleep I usually do but I was just so tired. I felt like I needed to sleep another few hours. Your body needs the rest so that it can heal itself don’t deprive it of that. You will need extra hours of sleep when you’re sick because your energy will be down. Go to bed earlier than usual or make sure that you will get at least 9 hours of sleep. I was sleeping like 15 hours of the days I stayed home. That was probably an overkill but that’s what my body needed to heal itself. Listen to your body!!

These are my top 5 tips for what to do when you’re sick. If any of these tips helped you make sure to leave me a comment. I love hearing from you guys. Also, if you have any of your own suggestions I would love to here. I am open to whatever so I can get over this cold.

If you guys didn’t know I know have an emailing list!! If you guys want to keep up with all the work I’m doing and hear some behind the scenes and sneak peaks make sure to subscribe. I can’t wait to see you guys all there ❤
