How to Get to Sleep So You Can Wake Up Earlier

Hey everyone!
I start school this week and there is one thing that I hate the most when it comes to this time of the year. I fucking hate waking up early. I am a night owl. Mornings are just not for me. I wish I knew why I hate mornings so much. If I could wake up before 12 it would be a miracle. That’s not to say I don’t wake up when I have to for classes or work but trust me, I am not in the best of moods.

The biggest problem I have is that I will literally skip school because I don’t want to wake up. One of my New Years Goals was to start waking up earlier. I want to be able to get up more than 10 minutes before I have to go somewhere. I really want to be one of those people that go to bed early and have half their to-do list done before it’s even the afternoon. To reach these goals I have decided to compile a bunch of tips I have found while doing my own research on how to get up earlier.

  1. Turn Off Electronics

I love watching TV before bed or checking Insta one last time. I’ve quickly realized that I don’t listen to myself though. I will try and squeeze in another episode in or lose track of time while playing Sims or on social media. I always stay up later than I want because I can’t disconnect. That is why I am trying to close the electronics an hour before I want to go to bed. I have replaced that hour with reading/writing time. There are plenty of studies that say that it’s better for you. It helps your brain calm down or something like that. I love to read but as the older I get, I find I have less time to dedicate to it. Now that I am disconnecting I have been able to read more.

2. Change Your Environment

This was an interesting topic that I read up on. I read that turning down the thermostat in your room helps you fall asleep faster and sleep better. I naturally like when my room is cooler when I sleep. After realizing this connection I started to actually change the temperature to 18 degrees Celsius before bed. I also read that spraying lavender scents help calm you down and put you to sleep. Though I don’t do this because it doesn’t super interest me, I know it could work for other people. Don’t get me wrong, I love essential oils. I’ve tried it before and for whatever reason, it just didn’t work for me.

3. Meditation

I love meditation, it makes me feel great. I especially love it for falling asleep. When my anxiety it really helps me calm down and go to bed. I started putting it into practice even when I’m happy. If you’re someone who loves meditation I would try it before bed. Now, if you fall into the “I hate meditation” or “What are you talking about?” category fair enough. I actually have an app that I love for beginners and people who aren’t totally convinced. Breathe is a guided meditation app. You simply put in how you’re feeling and it gives you their suggestions of guided meditations to help you improve how you’re feeling. I’ve been using this app for years. I’ve seen the app Calm being advertised everywhere on social media. It’s fine but you need to pay for most of the features. Breathe has an option to pay but a bulk of their meditations are free. I like free, no I love it. As a broke student, I don’t have 15$ a month to spend on an app that I’m not using multiple times a day. So I highly suggest Breathe.

4. Just Go to Bed Earlier

I know this seems crazy but it actually works. Set an alarm for when you want to go to bed or when you want to get up. Just be strict on yourself until it becomes a habit. This can be done in little steps. If you always go to bed at 2 am. Then make it a goal to close our eyes at 12 even if you don’t fall asleep right away. Look back on other tips for falling asleep aid. I have been trying really hard to slowly go to bed early. It doesn’t even have to be dramatic. Your goal can start off by being 10, 20, 30 minutes earlier than you usually go to bed. Whatever works best for you to get up earlier.

100 Posts Later – Day #26

Hey everyone!!

Today is a really exciting day!! Today I post my 100th blog post. Enlight of this amazing accomplishment I thought I would reflect on what I’ve learned and where I want to go.

So to start, I have learned a lot about myself over these last 100 posts. I realized that I have a hard time writing when I’m very busy or not feeling my best. I also learned that I am very critical of myself. I judge myself very harshly. I am a perfectionist which is something I’ve always know about myself. I just never realized how much it appeared in my writing. I find it hard to make blog posts when I think they could be better.

I’ve also learned that if I really set my mind to something I will do it. I think Blogmas really kicked off my love for blogging. I just really have to push myself to let go and just blog. My favourite thing that I’ve learned is that I really want to blog and make it a career someday. I love writing and I love sharing my writing with you guys.

Where do I see this blog going? I am hoping to be able to make my blog a full-time job someday. For now, I will focus on my plans for the next year. I am hoping to do my first brand deal in the next year. I think that is something that I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. I’ve just been waiting for the right offer. I also want to have 100 followers in the next few months. I am almost there and I am so excited.

I am also hoping to be able to make more YouTube videos in the next year. That is a goal that I’ve been talking about a lot. I get insecure and end up not filming. My hope is that I can be more confident in front of the camera so I can make more videos. I also want to buy a new camera to film better quality videos.

Summer Bucket List – Day #22

Hey everyone!

I know summer is halfway done and school is coming soon but I still have things I want to get done. I have one more vacation to take and plenty of sun to soak up! So, I thought I would share with you guys what my summer bucket list entails. I know this is a bit late but better late than never.

Go Hiking

I love hiking and I’m sad I haven’t gone yet. I’m hoping I will be able to go on a little hike on my next vacation. It’s just one of the best exercises and just basic fun.

Swim

I haven’t gone swimming yet! I know! We are getting a pool so hopefully, I’ll be able to go swimming then. I’m sure I’ll go swimming during my vacation too. I’m actually not a huge fan of swimming. I’m not sure why. It still feels wrong that I haven’t been in a pool yet even if it’s not my favourite thing.

Finish Moving In

I moved in in late May. We are still not done! We finished unpacking all the boxes but it’s just to finish organizing and decorating. I’m super excited to film a room tour when we finish. We are almost there and I couldn’t be happier!

Visit Montreal

I live about 40 minutes away from the city. There are so many things to do in Montreal, which I list in this post. I’ve been wanting to just go visit more often now that I feel comfortable travelling.

Visit a Farmer’s Market

I love fresh food! There are so many farms here in Quebec so why not shop locally. Shopping local is something that is actually very important to me. I prefer supporting people trying to make a living and feed their family than CEO’s that are fuelling their yacht.

Make More YouTube Videos

I have taken a long break from YouTube. I wasn’t feeling happy with the content I was creating so I decided to take a break. I wanted to refresh my content. I’ve also been posting on here every day and it’s been taking up a lot of my time. I think I’ve just not been confident so I gave up. I will hopefully be getting back to it soon.

Read More Books

I miss reading. I just don’t put the time into reading. When I was younger I used to be reading like 60 to 100 books a year. Now I’m lucky if I read one that is not for school. So I’ve been setting aside more time to read.

Get A Tattoo

I have been wanting to get a tattoo for like a year now. I think I just don’t find the time to do it. I don’t think about it or forget so it never gets done.

Lose Weight

I have been on a weight loss journey since September. So I’m just trying to stay motivated to continue. I will probably make a post about this at some point. I want to dedicate a whole post or video to my weight loss journey.

Saturday’s is the New Post Day

Hey everyone!

I am officially on summer vacation. I have been loving the sun and spending time with the people I love and relaxing before I start working full time. As you may have seen I told you guys last week that I want to start being more active on my blog. I want to put more effort into my content and being more present in my posts. If you haven’t seen that post, you can read it here.

As the title might be giving away, I have decided to add Saturday’s and officially Monday’s to my post days. I have been posting on Thursdays every week for almost 4 months now. I on occasion post on Monday’s because that is the day I post my YouTube videos. I really want to just start posting more so I added those two days to my post schedule.

I hope you guys want to read my blog as much as I want to write for you guys. I am so excited for this summer. I have so much content planned and I am hoping that I can really show you guys how much I love writing and blogging. I also will have a bit more help this summer. My amazing and lovely boyfriend has said on multiple occasions that he wants to help me with Collecting Glitter. So that will help a lot when he moves in.

I will see you guys on Monday! I just wanted to let you guys know the new schedule for this summer. I hope you guys have an amazing Mother’s Day weekend. I will probably see you guys tomorrow for a Mother’s Day post about my incredible mother.

My May Goals – Do More of What You Love

Hey everyone!

May is finally here! If you guys haven’t noticed, I prefer warm weather over the miserable Canadian winter. I feel like May is going to be a very motivating month. I think the change in weather and the sunshine is really going to help kick my butt into gear.

I really wanted to talk about my May goals with you guys. I didn’t really set anything in stone this month. I just wanted to have some general goals for the month.

I really want to dedicate more time to making better blog posts for you guys. I know I have been posting consistently for 3 months now but I don’t feel like my content is as good as it can be. As much as it is nice to say that I haven’t gone off schedule, if the content isn’t good it’s not really worth it. I feel like I haven’t made the posts I’ve been wanting to or YouTube videos for that matter.

I have a feeling this was because I was trying to juggle too much at once and I wasn’t able to put my 110% into anything. Everything I did slacked a bit. I’m hoping that with school being done and the only plans for this summer is work, I’ll be able to give more time to what I really want to do.

I had this big goal to get my blog and YouTube page to 100 followers/subscribers by June. I don’t think I will be able to reach that goal because I have not been able to give the time to hustle everything. As much as it was a nice goal I’m very far behind on both platforms to reach it. I’m not saying it’s impossible because I have not given up and I will try my hardest but it may not be realistic. (If you haven’t subscribed to my YouTube channel I highly suggest you all do. I promise really cool videos are coming.)

I think all around May is going to be a month of growing Collecting Glitter. I’ve never been so dedicated to a brand. I have given up a lot of blogs in the past but now I’m pushing forward and doing what I want to do.

How I’m Staying Motivated and Sticking To My Goals This Spring

I think the biggest question we all have is how to stay motivated. How do we stay driven to lose those last 20lbs or write a book or even get up in the morning for school? I don’t think there is an easy answer. I also think the answer is very personal. For me, it’s time constraints. I am a very last-minute kind of person. I do think at the very last second when I have no time left. Is this the healthiest method? Probably not. Will I continue doing it? Most likely. I don’t learn if I’m honest.

When it comes to my blog my motivation is my passion. I love what I do. I enjoy writing and I love sharing it with everyone. I also like the idea of being rich and famous one day from my blog, (Kidding…sorta) I don’t personally think the latter should be used as Real motivation. You’ll be very disappointed when you realize it doesn’t take a month for it to happen.

My biggest motivation this spring is female empowerment. I am all about that girl power! I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts and reading a lot of books focusing on women supporting other women. I find it very interesting and inspiring. I spent a lot of my life where it was rare to see women encouraging each other. It’s really sad to think about.

This motivation helped me create my goals for this spring. One of my biggest goals is to get both my Youtube channel and my blog to 100 subs and follows. So, I’ve been told, your first 100 is the hardest number to reach. I am half way there here on this blog, so if you aren’t following me yet, I would so love it if you did. My Youtube channel is struggling at almost 30 subscribers. Again, if you love my blog, you’ll for sure love my channel.
