My Food Shopping Haul – Day #19

Hey everyone!

I love food! I love food so much. I think it is my favourite thing ever. So when I moved out and I started having to buy my own food, I got really excited. I am in love with the fact that I am in charge of my own grocery list and what I was eating.

We spend about 40 to 80 dollars each every week or two weeks depending on when we go shopping. Depending on where we shop we can save a bit more money too. If we go to the grocery store up the street we spend more money. If we go to the Walmart a bit further we save a lot more money because you can price match at Walmart. I’ve spoken about this before on my top tips for saving post, price matching saved my life. You can save so much money and shop at one place.

We buy a lot of fruits and vegetables, some meat for him and other little bits and bobs. My boyfriend loves juice and soda so we buy that for him. We have a lot of fruits and veggies for snacks and meals. The meat is mostly for him but I do on occasion eat fish and chicken.

So we just did our shopping and here is what we bought!

Mangos, nectarines, and avacados.

Cucumbers, zucchini, onions, garlic, chives, carrots and Brussel sprouts.

Ground beef, tuna,  chicken breasts, and basa fillets.

Buns, tortillas, and sandwich bread.

Milk products:

Silk almond milk, vegan butter, yogurt, feta cheese, marble cheese, and cheddar singles.

That is the big bulk of what we bought. We also grabbed a few things like sloppy joe packets and salad dressing. I eat vegetarian and my man is still transitioning to vegetarian. The plan is to go vegan one day. He is having a harder time letting go and thinks it’s just easier to eat meat sometimes.

If you guys have any tips for transitioning to veganism I would love to hear them. I’m sorry my fridge is a bit of a mess, I still need to organize it. What do you guys eat? Do you guys do your own shopping?

Top 5 Summer Health Tips – Day #17

Hey everyone!

I don’t think I talk about this much but living a healthy lifestyle is very important to me. I think it’s something that a lot of people don’t make time for when they really should. Winter is the time where people make more of an effort just because it’s easier to get sick. It’s important to keep healthy habits even during the summer

I think I talk about this a bit or at least mentioned my favourite sunscreen. Protecting your skin from the sun. The older you get the more at risk you are for skin cancer. As much as all my friends around me tell me that you can’t live your life in fear you can take two seconds to put on some sunscreen. I always recommend sunscreen that is organic and has ingredients you understand. It also helps with the discolouration of skin, sun rays make scars more prominent.

Drink water, hydrate! I know everyone hears this all the time but it really is important. If you don’t want to suffer a heat stroke or dehydration just drink some water. I always carry around a water bottle with me. That way it keeps me accountable with how much water I’m drinking. I just have one that came in a pack from Costco. There’s 24 oz in it. I try to drink two to three whole bottles a day. If I’m out in the sun for a lot of the day I try and drink more.

Physical Activity

Working out is always a good idea but I know a lot of people hate working out. So I suggest doing some light activity. I like to do Yoga every morning. (Or when I get my ass out of bed early enough) It’s not too hot yet and it’s quiet. It’s just a great experience. If you can drag out a yoga mat to your backyard and just spend a few minutes soaking up the fresh air then you will be feeling better than ever.

Vitamins are an iffy things. I’m no doctor but honest it’s important to be taking the supplements you need. I take the 1 A Day Woman vitamins because it has everything I need. I suggest talking to a doctor or pharmacist to see what could be best for you. I see a difference when I take my vitamins. I feel like my immune system is stronger and I don’t get as sick as often. It’s something I highly recommend looking into.

Your Diet

What you eat is really important to feel healthy. During the summer I feel like I gravitate towards fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s the perfect season to buy certain things. I find fruits and veggies are cheaper during this season. At the end of the day like the quote goes, you can’t outrun a bad diet. The best way to feel healthy during the summer is to skip the fast food and eat fresh food.

Well, I hope all these tips help you guys. I would love to hear you guy’s tips if you have some! Here’s to a happy and healthy summer.

National French Fry Month – Day #16

Hey everyone!

July is National French Fry Month. So, I love anything that can be turned into a French Fry. So, of course, that is why I have my own favourite recipe. Besides the fact that I love to cook, I feel like it’s important to figure out how to make your own version of the unhealthy food. How do you make junk food healthy?

I always start with a potato. When making this blog post I had both russet potatoes (which I use the most often) and sweet potatoes. I make sure they are rinsed and take off any of the gross stuff I don’t want to be eating.

I think this part is optional and up to you on how you cute the potatoes. I like to make chips but if you’re really talented and have the time you can make them fry shape. I just find chips go way easier. You just cut the potato vertically.

Once all the potatoes are cut I put them on an aluminum foil covered pan. I use aluminum foil because it’s easier to clean up. I am straight up the laziest person and if it means there’s less for me to clean, I do it.

I drizzle a bit of olive oil over the potatoes chips so that the seasoning will stick. Today I decided to add onion powder and red pepper flakes. Red pepper flakes are spicy so if you’re not in the mood for spice you can always just use your own seasonings.

I stick these bad boys in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. I check up on them at 20 to see how they’re looking and I either take them out or put them in longer depending on how they look. I look for them to be crispy.

I let them sit for about 5 minutes then I serve. I typically eat them with vegan sour cream and chives just for extra flavour.

I hope you guys have a great national french fry month. Do you guys have your own french fry recipe or do you just buy them premade? If you try out this recipe make sure to tell me about it!

Picnic – Day #7

Hey everybody!
It’s a beautiful Friday evening here and my boyfriend and I decided to have a romantic dinner. Since the budget is tight like I talked about yesterday, we decided to sorta stay in. I’ve been wanting to go on a picnic since summer started. To me, there is something just relaxing and romantic about a picnic.

Nothing is better than a free outing. The park close to my place is also very beautiful. There’s a lot of trees and shady areas perfect for a picnic. The park was also super quiet, there was only one other family playing on the swing set. It was a great place to talk.

I made some spaghetti with his mother’s secret sauce. She was sweet enough to make us like 5 meals worth when we first moved in. It was delicious.  Also made some kale chips that were a fail. I added too much seasoning and it was like eating pure salt. Who knew that you could have too much seasoning? For dessert, I made a pineapple upside down cake. I’m a chef!

I can’t wait to see you guys tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make longer posts soon. I wanted to share my trip but quickly realized I didn’t have much to say.

National Ice Cream Month – Day #2

Hey everyone!

It’s national ice cream month! I thought that was reason enough to make a blog post today. Who doesn’t love ice cream?

We went to get some ice cream on Canada Day. It was so hot we almost didn’t make it. We are currently going through a heat wave! The best way to cool off during a heat wave is air conditioning. The only problem is that we woke up this morning and our air conditioner broke. Of course right? So we decided the next best thing to cool off would be going to grab some ice cream.

My favourite ice cream is ice cream sandwiches. So, of course, I made us get the back of 25 that was on sale. You can see how hot the sun is just by looking at my skin. I am glowing! More like sweating like crazy and dying from the humidity.

This one even came with me. He’s just so cute so I had to get this picture in.

What is everyone’s favourite type of ice cream? Did you guys celebrate national ice cream month yet? I would love to hear from you guys. Till tomorrow xoxo

What I Ate for Lunch Today // Pescitarian

Hey everyone!

I know, I know, you guys are asking yourself why I ate a pescetarian lunch today. As you guys probably saw a few weeks ago I talked about my go-to vegan lunch. I will admit right here right now, I am a bad vegan!

So here are the facts, I have been wanting to go vegan now for almost 2 years. It’s something I really want to do in my life and something I want for my future children. Why do I not eat vegan all the time you ask? I still live at home where my meat-eating parents are in charge of the groceries. So it can be very difficult to eat vegan with what they buy because they don’t care to see if things are vegan or not.

So, I do what I can with what I got and sometimes it has semi-vegetarian. A semi-vegetarian is someone who eats a plant-based diet but on occasion adds meat. So Today I added crab to my meal.

I made a naan bread and crab sandwich with vegan mayo and a large salad with legumes, avocado and avocado – lime dressing. It was incredible and exactly what I was craving when I saw that there was unfrozen crab in the fridge.

This meal is also super easy to make. The only real time-consuming thing I had to do was cut the romaine salad and put it in a bowl. If you have pre-cut salad then it’s even quicker. Slap the sandwich together and throw everything in a bowl and you are set. I ate this at home because I have a day off but this is easy to make in the morning to bring to work or school.

I do suggest that you wait to put the crab sandwich together because it will get soggy by the time you eat. This is also a got to salad for me. I bring it to work all the time because it’s so good and very filling. Again I suggest that you wait to put the avocado because it will turn brown.

I highly recommend you guys try this meal if you’re looking for something easy and want to shake up your usual sandwich. I would love to know if you would try this meal or what your favourite lunches are?

Earth Day 2018 – 18 Things You Need to Start Doing Now

Happy Earth Day everyone!! Today is a very important day that we need to take more seriously. Global warming is happening we are the only thing that can save our Earth. I made of list of 18 things you need to start doing now. With no further ado the list:

Let’s End the consumption of plastic

  • Platic is ending up in our oceans so quickly there’s an island made entirely of trash. This should make you made and if it doesn’t you aren’t listening. Plastic is a huge polluter and is destroying our environment. Animals are eating plastic killing them. Stop buying things that are made of plastic or wrapped in plastic. Take a stand and demand companies use less plastic. If you do purchase plastic make sure it’s disposed of properly.

Let’s stop eating meat and other things that pollute the earth

  • As much as people don’t want to be told they should stop eating meat, it’s true. The production of meat is one of the biggest pollution culprits. The amount of water wasted just to take care of these mass produced animals is horrific. The mass production of animals also has devastating effects on the planet let alone your health. We also over fish our sealife leaving certain species unable to repopulate. It’s time to start thinking of eating less meat.

Let’s take care of our environment

  • I remember last year there was an article that went up saying that the Great Barrier Reef was officially completely dead. I had never been so scared. The Great Barrier Reed, the Amazon and many other natural features of this earth are slowly dying because we don’t take care of them. The Amazon keeps getting torn down (for the production of meat by the way) and the Great Barrier Reef is almost dead. A lot of wildlife depend on these places existing and people stopped caring.

Let’s shop locally and start upcycling

  • Stop buying from large companies, they do not have the environment in mind. They are using children in poor countries and tearing down forests for their own gain. When you buy from a large chain you are giving money to the CEO to fly their private jet on vacation when you buy from local companies you are helping a family eat that week. Always support your local stores and vendors. Also, buy things second hand and donate. This helps so much in diminishing the amount of waste.

Let’s take a walk

  • Stop driving places that are 5 minutes away. Take the 20 minutes to walk there. You won’t be wasting gas and polluting the environment and you will get some good exercise in. Walking or taking your bike is always the best way to go. If you can walk there don’t take the car out.

Let’s stop wasting water

  • Take fewer baths and shorter showers are always the top thing recommended it. If that doesn’t interest you just turn off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth. Also, make sure nothing is leaking in your house, that can waste gallons of water. Like mentioned earlier eat less meat. It is predicted that we will run out of drinking water. Don’t be someone that helps that come earlier than it has to.

Let’s pull out those recycling and compost bins

  • Recycle everything you can. If it doesn’t have to be thrown out reuse it. Don’t throw food in the trash but rather in the compost. I don’t even think I have to explain why you should recycle and compost. I think this is on the of the more obvious things you should do.

Let’s get involved

  • Join a local or worldwide organization that is fighting for our environment. Also, a lot of organizations like Greenpeace are very active on social media, make sure to see what they are up to. Just staying up to date on what these groups are doing keeps you aware. If they are doing something local always get involved. Sometimes you have to boycott companies or plant trees but it’s worth it.

Let’s turn those lights off

  • When you are leaving your home for the day make sure the lights are off. It’s a waste of energy and can break the budget. Another good tip is to change your light bulbs to energy efficient ones. Light bulbs release heat that can make the home warmer causing the air conditioning to go up. It’s important to keep all these things down.

Let’s bring our bags to the supermarket

  • I live in Montreal where a law passed that companies will no longer be allowed to give out plastic bags you have to bring your reusable bags. Like mentioned earlier plastic is horrible for the environment. So stop getting them at the supermarket and just bring your own bags. Bringing your own bags reduces the amount of plastic you are using. You can even get your own fruit and veggie bags so you don’t have to use the plastic ones. If you live in Canada like I do it saves you the 5 cents per bag you have to pay for the plastic ones.

Let’s use our local transit

  • Local transit is there for a reason. Using a bus or train saves however many people can fit on a bus from driving their own care. That makes a huge impact at the end of the day when it comes to gas emissions. If you can try and see what your area offers in terms of local transit. I use the bus every day instead of buying my own car. I am lucky to live in an area that allows me to do that. If you don’t need a car, don’t use one.

Let’s make a garden

  •  Grow some of your own food so you don’t buy them from large chains. This helps save money and the environment. Creating more plants helps with H2O emissions. It all falls back on not buying from large corporations that do some very un-eco-friendly things to get their fruits and veggies. Also buying produce locally or having your own means less travel for the food. They don’t have to cross oceans on boats or fly in planes or travel by truck. That means less carbon footprint.

Let’s plant some trees

  • Much like the last point, plant some trees. It’s not that hard to buy some trees and put them in your backyard. Maybe you want some more privacy instead of buying a plastic fence put in some plants. There are also a bunch of groups that go out and plant trees. The more trees are cut the down the less H2O we have. It’s important to replace what is being taken down. If you can do your part, you should for sure try.

Let’s not waste food

  • A lot of food is thrown out every year for no other reason than it doesn’t look pretty. Food that is either too small, too big, ugly, etc is wasted. There are programs to collect that food and sell it at a reduced price. At least it won’t be thrown out. It’s better to buy things that don’t look how they should but taste the same than throwing it out. I do know the store I work for does sell “ugly” fruit and veggies at a reduced price. More places should be doing this. If you’re interested I really suggest taking a look at They send boxes full of reject food to you. You get to choose how much you want. It’s different every week. Unfourtanitly, there are no similar companies here in Canada, which makes me really upset.

Let’s check the ingredients in our makeup

  • Natural makeup is becoming more and more popular with more people wanting to know what is in their makeup. There are a lot of toxic ingredients that can be found in makeup that is bad for you and the environment. If you can’t read the ingredients it’s probably not great for you. Palm oil can be found in a lot of makeup products. To get palm oil a lot of orangutans, elephants and rhinos are affected by this.

Let’s stop overconsuming

  • Overconsumption is one of the biggest things North America and Europe is plagued with. We just keep buying. Overconsumption is bad for our environment. It’s time we stop buying things we don’t need just to fit in. You don’t need those things and they always end up laying around when they aren’t cool anymore. We have a problem with things like clothing and interior design going out of trend as quickly as in comes in. Don’t fall into the trap.

Let’s say no to junk mail

  • Say no to junk mail. Just call up the companies that are sending the mail to you and say you don’t want it anymore. There are also a few companies that help to get junk mail to stop being sent to your place. Junk mail is a waste of paper and gas to be sent to your place. It’s one way to cut down on your paper use and carbon footprint. If you can junk mail to stop showing up at your door I highly recommend it. Also if you can switch some of your mail, like bank statements, to online it will change your life.

Let’s reuse those batteries

  • Last but not least buy reusable batteries. This is something I have switched too and I didn’t really know why. All the environmental activists were telling us to switch so I did. I then did my research to see what the real reason behind the switch. There are chemicals in batteries that are very toxic, a widely known fact. When you just throw out batteries in the trash those batteries break and can end up in our water and in the ground. It poisons the earth. So it’s better to get batteries that can be recharged so you don’t have to throw them out.

So here are 18 things you guys need to do now to save the environment. I would love to hear any other suggestions you guys have or what you guys are doing to save the environment.
