My Fall Reading List // Blogtober Day #5

Hey everyone!

Does anyone else feel like wrapping themselves in a warm blanket, lighting a candle, dimming the lights and just reading? I feel like October brings on that mood for me. Maybe it’s because of the rainy days or the colder weather but I just need a book to warm up my soul haha.

I thought I would share with you guys my fall reading list. I know you guys love my posts about my reading lists so why not do one for fall? I don’t have a big list because I have a lot of books I have to read for school so have to keep my expectations low for this fall. Hopefully, I will be able to read more books, but I don’t think I will be able to. I have four books to share with you guys that I will be reading for the next 2 months.

Cordially Invited by Zoe Sugg

Fellow blogger Zoe Sugg has just came out with a housewarming book. I think that’s what it’s called. It’s all about the seasons and how to throw the best party and decorate your home and other little bits and bobs. I love these kinds of books. I will be honest and say I have a few of them. I was so excited when she announced that she was coming out with this book. I made the error of pre-ordering the book. I pre-ordered it thinking I would get it for the day of the release. Nope. I still haven’t gotten it yet. The book came out the 3rd and yup I’m still waiting for it. According to my tracking information, it hasn’t even been shipped yet. Trust me, I have ordered a lot of things through Amazon and I am not impressed not one bit. Usually, they have better service than this. Regardless I will be devouring this book when I get it.

You Can Get It HERE!

Harry Potter by J.K Rowling

I’ve been really wanting to re-read these books for a long time. For whatever reason when I think of fall and books the first thing that pops into my head is Harry Potter. I have a feeling because the beginning of each book kind of starts with fall. I also find Harry Potter to be such a comforting book. There is just something so magical when you read the Harry Potter series that is hard to explain. I just love being in the world that is Harry Potter. I also own all of them. I got them for my birthday a few years back. My boyfriend also owns all of them and just so happened to have the same set as I did. So, we technically have two copies of the books. Now that is hoarding at its best. I can’t get rid of books, by the way, it’s an actual problem. Maybe I should film a bookshelf tour soon? Would that be something you guys would want to see? Anyways back on topic. If you haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books get on that…like now!

The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck + Get Your Shit Together by Sarah Knight

I put this in the same paragraph because it’s not a series but a series by this author. I bought these books I believe last year because the titles stood out to me. I read one of them when I bought them and never got around to reading the second on. I am also currently feeling like I need to get my life back together and start focusing on what makes me happy and from what I remember of this book it talks about that. I have been feeling a bit unhappy with some stuff in my life and decided it was time to focus on myself and be a bit selfish and make sure that I am happy

That was my reading list for this fall. What are you guys reading? Would you guys like it if I filmed a bookshelf tour? If you have read or like any of these books I would love to know! If you want to read along with me for any of these books I would love to know. I think that would be a lot of fun. We can even make a hashtag or something cheesy like that haha.

My First Week Of School // Back To School 2018

Hey everyone!

The first week of school is finally over! I hope everyone made it out alive. For those of you who haven’t started yet, I wish you luck. For those who have, are you as tired as me?

I am fortunate to say that I love the program I am in. I love what I am studying. I know that the Arts, Literature and Language: multidisciplinary program (a college Art Degree) is the best fit for me. For some of you guys who don’t know my past struggles with school, I have a YouTube video all about why I dropped out of college. In brief, I went from a horrible horrible situation in my life to one where I feel like I can actually have a future. Though I was pursuing an art degree at another school it was not where I wanted to be.

My first week has been crazy. It has been trying to figure out a new sleeping schedule, it’s been figuring out how to eat, yup how to eat and where all my classes are and if I like the teachers. For the most part, I’ve been falling asleep super early and naturally waking up at 6 am yet I force myself to sleep till 7. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but it’s like I hate the idea of being up at 6. Like why wake up at a reasonable hour and get ready for school when you can rush?

I’ve also been eating less because I don’t have time to eat. Some of my days are back to back classes from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. I can’t just eat a full meal during class so it’s become eating little bits every now and again when I can. Also, cafeteria food is just not worth it! It was so expensive. I’m bringing my own food or waiting it out next time. (Which I usually do but the other day I was in a pinch).

So far I’ve been really liking my classes, even the classes I wasn’t too sure about. I’m excited to see where my classes will take me. All my teachers seem awesome and the actual content is interesting and engaging.

I have a locker buddy who is super nice but I’ve only seen her once. I leave most of my stuff in my locker much like I said in my backpack post. It’s been working out really well. I’m really happy with my decision to take fewer things to school. It has made my life so much easier. The only thing I will be adding to my bag is Tylenol because I’ve been getting a lot of headaches at school since it’s so loud and I think I’m tired.

I own an Apple watch. Over the summer I didn’t really wear it but I think I’m going to start wearing it more often. I noticed there were times where I wanted to know what the time was but some teachers are super strict about phone use. So I’m going to start wearing my watch so I can see the time. It’s such a super simple thing but I’m so used to using a phone to check the time. It doesn’t help that very few of the classrooms in my school have clocks. WHY? I don’t know! But I would love to know why.

So this is basically a sum up of my week. I’m super happy and can’t wait for the rest of this semester. I would love to know how everyone else’s first week is going? If this is not your first week of school I would still love to hear from you guys too!

Also if you guys didn’t see my last post I have created a Student Planner! You can purchase my planner on ETSY for is on sale right now for only 1.50$ for a limited time!!!! I swear that it is the best planner for your money and it will help you like crazy! Check it out here!

How To Nail Syllabus Week // Back To School 2018

Hey Everyone!

I start school in one weeks time and I am already mentally preparing myself for school. Don’t get me wrong I am very excited to go back to school but there is so much to do. Some people think that syllabus week is super easy and others think it’s very stressful. I fall under the in-between category. I know I have a lot to do but at least I’m not doing homework or projects yet. I thought I would share my best tips to do syllabus week the right way.

1. Read your syllabus before class

If your teacher posts their syllabus before the start of class I suggest reading it before class. Most of my teachers in the past have expected that the class read the syllabus and I’ve looked very stupid in the past for not reading it. If you take the 5 minutes to read your syllabus the class will make a lot more sense when the teacher is explaining things.

2. Buy your books beforehand

This may not be easy for everyone but I suggest buying your books for school before your classes start. I always try and go before my first class. Some teachers like to jump right into class, those are the teachers I like to call crazy. Still, it’s better to be prepared rather than not have your materials. I also find this eliviates the stress of waiting in long lines when the school book store openes. Beating the lines is the best way to go about it.

3. Create a schedule

I would honestly practice before school starts but create a sleep and wake up schedule. It will be a lot easier in the morning if you are waking up and going to bed at the same time everyday. I decided that I will be waking up at 7 am from now on. It’s one of the best ways to feel rested. You’ll be less tired if you are giving your body some consistancy. I find that syllubus week is the best way to decided what works best for you. It’s almost like a trial run of your school week. You’ll be able to see when it’s the best time to wake up everyday.

4. Know your schedule

This may seem like a given but I see people every year that are completly lost. At least have an idea of what your classes are. If you can look up the buildings your classes are in so you know where you have to be and when. I am lucky this year I am mostly in the same two buildings which will make it easier to get to my next class.

5. Ask questions

I am the worst at doing this myself but on syllubus week it’s the best time to ask questions. Don’t understand something on the syllubus? Aren’t sure if you’ll need the exact copy of your textbook or novel? Ask. It’s really that simple. It’s way better than getting a couple weeks into class and have no idea what’s going.

So here are my top 5 tip for syllabus week. Is anyone else excited to go back to school?

Why I Don’t Use a Backpack! // Back To School 2018

Hey everyone!

It’s back to school season! Who else is super excited to go back to school, cause I know I am? I thought I would make a back to school series for the next few weeks leading up to school starting. I will be going back to college this year for my second semester and I am really in love with what I’m studying. I really wanted to share my tips and tricks and maybe even some inspo for you guys for back to school.

So I know the title may be surprising to everyone. No backpack? Then what do you use? Now, let’s start at the beginning before we get ahead of ourselves. I have always used a backpack since my first day of pre-school all the way up to last year. I have had them all, the ones with my favourite animated characters, the suitcase backpack, the fashionable backpack, you name it I had it. Last year I ended up using a very ugly but sturdy backpack. I was just lugging around so much stuff that I needed something that could hold all my stuff.

IMG_5994

This year I decided I was tired of it. I was tired of carrying around all this shit that I didn’t need. I was tired of my bag being so heavy for no reason. So I decided this year that I was done with it. I was not living that hell again. I bought myself a large purse and said everything is going to fit in here whether I like it or not.

You can actually grab my exact bag here. I love Aldo! Their bags are always amazing! Honestly, if you’re looking for a good quality bag they are the place to go.

Now it was time to get rid of all those extra things. I started off first with my notebook. I had the amazing idea of using a 5 subject notebook last year for all my classes. I think it was just super easy to know that I had all my notes for all my classes at all times. The only problem is that the notebook was heavy. So I was super excited when I saw that they sold 5 subject notebooks but smaller.

IMG_6001

Then it was to take out the 2 or 3 pencil cases I had. I only very used like three things, a pencil, an eraser and a pen. I didn’t need all the colourful pens and the sharpies and all the extra little things I had in my pencil cases. I downsized to one pencil case that really has the bare minimum. The only thing I added to the three things listed above was white out and highlighters and one sharpie. Now it’s light and I only have to worry about one pencil case.

Next, I decided to get rid of the three agendas. Yes, I had three agendas. One for school and one for personal/ school stuff. I decided to condense everything into one agenda. It’s actually a teacher’s planner. I bought it for like 1$ at Target when I went to visit my friend Lauren. I realized a teacher planner was perfect to see when my homework and exams were. I also noticed I never really used my personal agenda. I just didn’t think to use it. Everything is already on my phone so I didn’t need it. That again frees up a lot of space.

IMG_6000

School books. They are a pain in my ass. Now that I’m in college I have a lot more textbooks. Last year I left all my textbooks at home and brought them to school when I needed them. I had a locker, everyone! Yet I chose to have all my books at home. This year I am determined to do a 360 and bring home the books I need rather than have to lug them to school every day.

I was bringing a water bottle and a travel cup to school every day. I would have my tea in one and my water in the other. Liquids get heavy! Plus I would just have an empty travel cup to carry when I was done my tea. I don’t believe I need to drink a tea to be awake in the morning. I prefer just drinking water. I feel like a nice cup of cold water in the morning wakes me up better than any caffeine does. So I am dropping the caffeine in the morning from now on.

IMG_5999

Two books usually ended up in my bag. In case I got bored with the one book I was ready I would bring another one. So yeah, I will be sticking to one book at a time. I don’t think I need to make it clear that books get heavy. I will be working on not bring a ridiculous amount of books too school.

I have never once used a personal hygiene bag every in my life. I have never used a toothbrush or deodorant or floss or band-aids or any of those little things. They were just taking us space in my bag. The only things I do use is Tylenol/Advil and a tampon. So I will leave a small container of pain relievers in my bag and tampons when I need them. I will probably have a separate bag for the days I have gym class with deodorant and perfume because I have a class after. That I will leave at home and just throw it in my bag on the days that I will need it. Other than that it’s really a waste of space to have all those things on a daily bases. If it works for you that’s awesome but for me, it’s just clutter.

IMG_5996

So these are all the reasons why I will not be using a backpack every again. I want to have a more minimalist school year. I wrote this post not to make anyone think that my way is the only way but more to not make the same mistakes as me. You can put all the things I’m bringing to school into a backpack. I just simply chose a bag because to me it’s more fashionable.

I want to know, do you guys bring backpacks to school? Are any of you stuck in the same runt as me bringing too much stuff to school? Leave me to comment I would love to know.

Book Thrifting? – Day #20

Hey everyone!

I went book thrifting! That actually wasn’t the plan but it’s just what happened. I was originally going to do a thrift haul for you guys but it didn’t work out. There’s not many thrift stores where I’m from and they don’t usually get a lot of nice things. Or well things that I would want.

They did have books though! I’m a bit of a book snob if I’m being honest. I love to buy new books because I hate when books are used. I just don’t like when pages are ripped or creased or stained. The irony is that I love to write in books.

IMG-1908

I quickly went through the book section not really thinking about it. Then I saw the book. I mentioned this books in my Summer Reading List. I found The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. The Devil Wears Prada is actually one of my favourite movies of all time. I’ve been wanting to read the book since I, well, found out it was a book. Working for Vogue is a dream of mine since I was about 15 years old.

After I found that book I decided it was time to see if they had any other books I’ve been wanting to pick up but have been having a hard time finding. The books were also like a 1$! If that means I don’t have to pay full price for a book I love it.

IMG-1912

I found the Fallen series by Thomas E. Sniegoski and Bellevue Square Michael Redhill. I think I paid a total of maybe 5 dollars for everything. That’s insane! Both The Devil Wears Prada and Bellevue Square look like they haven’t even been used! The Fallen series has a bit of writing in it but I think that’s cute.

I’m super impressed with what I picked up and I plan on going back soon. My mind has completely changed on used books. Maybe because it’s so cheap. All these books are about 20$ Canadian each and I paid 5$. If I can save money I love it.

Have any of you guys ever picked up any used books? If so how was your experience? Were you happy with what you got?

The Summer I Turned Pretty Book Review – Day #18

Hey everyone!

So I read a book haha. I love reading but I don’t get the time to read as much I would love to. So when I finally had the chance to read this book I thought I would review it for you guys.

51bOLZ9bZ9L._SX326_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

So I got this bind up version of the first three books in the Summer I Turned Pretty series. I have finished the first book in the series. I got the book for like 7$ USD at Target. I thought it was worth the price, especially when books can run 10$ each.

I loved this book! I thought it was sweet and had the amazing reflection on what first love can do to us. The writing was easy and fun, the characters are relatable and the themes are important. It was the best summer read I could have picked up. It just made me want to go to the beach right that second.

I know this book didn’t get the best reviews because it’s predictable and some people think the main character is selfish. For the main character being selfish, I found her realistic. I remember being 15-16 and feeling the same way she did about her first love. For the predictability of the book, I don’t think that necessarily makes a book bad. I just find it was an easy read and easy to get sucked in.

I read the whole book in one sitting during a 12-hour bus ride. It made everything go faster. It was so easy to get lost in this book. I recommend it to anyone that just wants an easy short read that will give you all the feels. My friend is actually the one that suggested this book to me and I thank her for introducing this book series to me. I’m going to try and review the next two books in the series too if you’re interested in that.

If you want to pick up this book you can find it here on the CHAPTERS or TARGET website. Honestly, it’s summer goals.

Let’s Unplug – Day #12

Hey everyone!

How is everyone’s summer going? Mine is going amazingly! I wanted to write a post today about unplugging. I know that seems like a weird topic with me being a blogger, especially a blogger that is posting every day of the month of July.

Even people who love to write and be online need days where they just aren’t on the internet. I have a lot of people especially when they find out that I have a blog and a YouTube channel ask me what I would do without the internet. I find that question so ignorant. Sometimes even my grandparents say that I would never have been able to live in their generation, again ignorance.

The simple answer is there are plenty of times where I am not on my phone or on the internet. There are plenty of times that I spend one on one versus looking for wifi. The internet has become something to do when you’re bored or to see what others are doing. If I’m looking at my phone scrolling through Instagram it’s not because I can’t put it away it’s because I am bored and need something to do. I think there is a problem deeper than “addiction” when it comes to the internet. I think the problem is more that we need to be constantly doing something.

That is why I love unplug days. Those are days that I go out of my way to just not pick up my phone or play on my computer. I like to not use any electronics including watching TV. This doesn’t even have to be all day sometimes I set aside an hour of my day to do this. During that time I write in a notebook or I read a book. I just light some candles and put some nice lighting on and I just chill.

It doesn’t even have to be things I do by myself. I usually put my phone away when I’m with people. I don’t see the point of being on my phone when I’m with people. Unless, everyone is on their phone I just won’t touch mine.

All in all, this post is just about taking time off for yourself when you need it. You can always go back and see what you missed. That’s the best and worst part of the internet, whatever goes up stays there forever.
