Happy Thanksgiving // Blogtober Day #8

Hey everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Or well Canadian Thanksgiving. For all my American friends or friends from other countries Thanksgiving is celebrated in October. Why? I have no clue. Regardless we ate our turkey today and shared what we were thankful for.

I just wanted to come on here and talk a bit about being thankful and what I am thankful for. If you are unaware a couple of weeks ago something tragic happened here in Quebec. There was tornado that hit the west side of my province devastating many communities. There are towns that aren’t there anymore. I have never in my life thought that a tornado would touch down close to me. I have family in that area and it terrified me. I always thought that tornados were for people who lived in the desert or farming states of the United States. This event made me start to think about somethings and put my own life in perspective.

I have always been a very sympathetic and empathetic person. I am devastated for any natural disaster or disaster in general that happens in the world. I hate seeing people suffer and I especially hate seeing people not caring about those who are suffering. Though when it’s close to home for some reason it rings a bit truer that it can be you and you will never expect it.

I have since spent time with my family and realized what is important to me. I have taken the time to be grateful for everything I have. I am thankful for the opportunities I have in life. It also made me realize that I need to live my life for me and not be a slave to others. That is why I have started putting in place actions that will bring me happiness even if it comes off as selfish. I have one life to live and I will be doing what makes me happy.

Thanksgiving though a very controversial holiday does always leave me reflecting on my life. There is so much that we take for granted in our everyday lives and sometimes you need a moment to say thanks. There is always someone doing worse and there is always doing something better, but your pain and hardships are still valid. I feel like that is one of the most important lessons I have learned in my adult life. You have to stop comparing yourself to others and be thankful for what you have and work on what you don’t.

This thanksgiving I will be spending quality time with the people that mean the world to me, my family and close friends. I will be revaluating the things that don’t make my life the way I want it to be. Letting go of people that do not bring me joy. I will stop doing things that make me miserable and I will find a way to bring happiness to my life every day.

I hope my fellow Canadians had an amazing Thanksgiving. For my friends in other places I hope you can bring these thoughts with you into your Thanksgiving meals and reflect on your own life. What are you guys thankful for?

My Seasonal Depression Tips // Blogtober Day #7

Hey everyone!

I’ve mentioned this a couple of times, but I thought I would dedicate a whole post about this. The colder weather is coming and so is my seasonal depression. I have suffered with depression on and off for a few years now. I know when winter comes along it really starts to manifest in my life. I have a post talking about season depression if you’d like to read it. This post is about preventing things like season depression, anxiety and all around having good mental health this fall.

I know a lot about mental health and now to take care of it. Like everyone though, I am a normal person and I slip up sometimes. Sometimes I feel myself not feeling too great and then I realize that there are things that I can do to prevent feeling yucky. Here are some of my tips on how to stay feeling happy through the fall and winter seasons.

  1. Cut out unhealthy things

I don’t mean unhealthy foods per say but every now and again take a second to look around and reflect on the things that are making you unhappy. Whether it be a friend, your job, school whatever it is, pin it down. If you can’t pin it down maybe, it’s time to get external help and talk to a professional. If you can pin it down cut it out. I know that can be scary or difficult but it’s worth it. If it’s a friend, you will find other friends. If it’s your job, apply to other jobs. Make sure that you are setting yourself up for success and get rid of the things that are dragging you down.

  1. Self-care

Take time for self-care. Self-care doesn’t have to be bubble baths and painting your nails if that’s not your thing. Take time to shower, brush your teeth, make sure you are clean, this helps a lot with self-esteem. Self-care is also doing your favourite hobby, eating your favourite food, watching your favourite movie. It is whatever makes you feel happy inside. Do things that bring you job even if it seems selfish. Self-care is also learning to say no to things that you don’t want to do and yes to the things you do. Self-care is all about taking care of yourself and doing things for you.

  1. See professional help

This is a very scary one for most people. Seeking help is like admitting there is something wrong or that you are not strong enough to do it by yourself. I am here to tell you that that isn’t true. Seeking help does not mean there is something wrong with you. Just talking to a therapist can help so much. There are a lot of people that have a therapist or see professionals for other things just to have someone to talk to. You don’t tell people that see a doctor a failure because they couldn’t fix themselves. So, don’t say that about yourself.

  1. See the good in things

Every day I try to take a moment and write down what I am grateful for. I also write down the things that I am unhappy about. I just let myself write and see what it brings me. Sometimes it can be hurtful to see the things I have to say, yet it’s therapeutic. I feel good. I also love to take time to force myself to find something in my day that made me happy. It is impossible that nothing in your day made you happy. There is always something to be grateful for or happy about. Some people call this gratitude writing I just call it journaling. It really is nice, and I suggest everyone to try it.

These are some of my favourite tips for the upcoming months. Putting yourself first and thinking about yourself is not selfish. It’s important to put yourself first sometimes.

My No Spend November Tips // Blogtober Day #6

Hey everyone!

I’m a crazy person. I have decided that a long time ago, but I thought I would just share it with you guys. I decided to do a no spend November. I understand if the minute you read that you decided to just get out of here. You could also be saying “Clara…I think you’re confused…it’s October.” That is correct my lovely friends, it is indeed October. I just need a lot of planning and mental preparation for November.

I have decided in the month of November I will not be spending any money on things that are not budgeted. To clarify I will be paying my bills, buying groceries and probably spending out of the Christmas budget. Other than that, I will not be buying anything else. No take out, no clothes, no things for fun. I will not be wasting any money on things I don’t need but convince myself that I need because I want it. You feel me? So, I thought since I am preparing for a no spend November that maybe I should share some tips for you guys in case you are planning and doing the same.

What is your motivation?

I think this is more of setting yourself up for success more than a tip. I think it’s important for you to have a real reason for a no spend month. If you don’t know why you’re doing it, it’s easier to make a mistake and mess up. My boyfriend and I want to go on a trip, so we need to save up some money to do that. After looking at my bank account I realized that I need to stop spending and be making money. My motivation is being on the beach somewhere sometime in January. I can’t tell you your motivation. I can tell you thought it has to be something that will motivate you enough for you to put that new item down and say you want something else more.

Look at your expenses

Before going into a no spend month I suggest looking at your bank account and see where your money is going. When I decided to do this, I was seeing my savings account dropping like flies and didn’t know why. When I looked at everything I was spending my money on I realized that I was basically just wasting money. I was going to the expensive grocery store a lot just to buy quick meals because I didn’t feel like cooking.  I also bought a lot of fast food. Worst of all I was buying things just to treat myself. If I want to be able to save more money this month I can’t just be treating myself. Looking at your expenses will put everything in a bigger picture. It will also help you pinpoint your weak spots. Where does your money go? So, the next time you want to buy take out or get expensive snacks or whatever your money trigger is, think again.

Have a budget

This may sound a bit crazy but know a budget. The last time I went grocery shopping I calculated practically down to the last cent how much it was going to cost me. By doing that it helped me not just add things to the cart because they looked good. I made a meal plan added everything to the list that I needed to get and saw how much it would cost me. I said that was the max amount I was paying for groceries for the next two week and I stuck to it. I will be doing this from now on. I found that it helped me a lot when I stuck to a list. I also price match and coupon which helps out a lot. This can go for everything else that you need to spend money on that month. If you can’t get out of paying 80$ for your bus ticket or 50$ for your phone, put that in the budget. Be aware of what needs to be spent and tell yourself you can’t go over that amount.

Tell other people/ do it with someone

I think this is one of my most helpful tips. It is proven that you are more likely to accomplish something if you have other people motivating you. I am doing no spend November with my boyfriend, so we get to support each other when it’s difficult. If you have a close friend or even a significant other or family that you can get on board to not spend it will be way easier. It can also become a bit of a competition to see who will crack first. Get someone to join you and you will most likely succeed.

My Fall Reading List // Blogtober Day #5

Hey everyone!

Does anyone else feel like wrapping themselves in a warm blanket, lighting a candle, dimming the lights and just reading? I feel like October brings on that mood for me. Maybe it’s because of the rainy days or the colder weather but I just need a book to warm up my soul haha.

I thought I would share with you guys my fall reading list. I know you guys love my posts about my reading lists so why not do one for fall? I don’t have a big list because I have a lot of books I have to read for school so have to keep my expectations low for this fall. Hopefully, I will be able to read more books, but I don’t think I will be able to. I have four books to share with you guys that I will be reading for the next 2 months.

Fellow blogger Zoe Sugg has just came out with a housewarming book. I think that’s what it’s called. It’s all about the seasons and how to throw the best party and decorate your home and other little bits and bobs. I love these kinds of books. I will be honest and say I have a few of them. I was so excited when she announced that she was coming out with this book. I made the error of pre-ordering the book. I pre-ordered it thinking I would get it for the day of the release. Nope. I still haven’t gotten it yet. The book came out the 3rd and yup I’m still waiting for it. According to my tracking information, it hasn’t even been shipped yet. Trust me, I have ordered a lot of things through Amazon and I am not impressed not one bit. Usually, they have better service than this. Regardless I will be devouring this book when I get it.

Harry Potter by J.K Rowling

I’ve been really wanting to re-read these books for a long time. For whatever reason when I think of fall and books the first thing that pops into my head is Harry Potter. I have a feeling because the beginning of each book kind of starts with fall. I also find Harry Potter to be such a comforting book. There is just something so magical when you read the Harry Potter series that is hard to explain. I just love being in the world that is Harry Potter. I also own all of them. I got them for my birthday a few years back. My boyfriend also owns all of them and just so happened to have the same set as I did. So, we technically have two copies of the books. Now that is hoarding at its best. I can’t get rid of books, by the way, it’s an actual problem. Maybe I should film a bookshelf tour soon? Would that be something you guys would want to see? Anyways back on topic. If you haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books get on that…like now!

I put this in the same paragraph because it’s not a series but a series by this author. I bought these books I believe last year because the titles stood out to me. I read one of them when I bought them and never got around to reading the second on. I am also currently feeling like I need to get my life back together and start focusing on what makes me happy and from what I remember of this book it talks about that. I have been feeling a bit unhappy with some stuff in my life and decided it was time to focus on myself and be a bit selfish and make sure that I am happy

The Halloween Movie Must Watch List // Blogtober Day # 4

Hey everyone!

Halloween is coming up soon. I am so excited. Halloween is my favourite holiday I think maybe even more than Christmas. One of my favourite things about Halloween is for sure the scary theme it has and all the movies that come out around this time. So, I decided to share with you guys some of my favourite scary movies to watch with Halloween coming up.

I decided to share of my cult favourites and some that scared the bejesus out of me. I have a good round-up of all the movies that you need to watch right away if you haven’t already. So let’s jump right into it.

  1. Halloween Town Series

So, I thought I would start off with one of my ultimate favourite movies of all time. I have loved this series since I first watched it on Disney channel. This is a classic. I love every single movie in this series and I watch them on repeat during this time of year. I also on the lookout to buy the movies, they are like impossible to find for some reason. If you haven’t seen this movie where have you been? If you like Harry Potter than you will love this movie. The world is so fun, and the humour is cute. They are for children keep in mind but it’s still a movie I love to this day.

  1. The Terrifier

This was a horrible suggestion from my boyfriend one night when he wanted to watch a scary movie. See this movie didn’t scare me but did at the same time. What is supposed to be scary in the movie like the brutal murder and violence was eh. The last few minutes of the movie, wtf?! His creepy ass smile had me done. If you’re looking for something on Netflix that you will think isn’t that great and kind of just weird this is the one. The ending will probably freak you out too. I am not easily scared by scary movies though, so this could possibly be scary for other people especially if you hate clowns.

  1. IT

I know this was a last year movie but it’s a classic to me. IT will always be that scary clown movie that everyone hates. Stephen King is an amazing writer, I love his work and I almost always love the movie adaptations of his books. There is both an older version and newer version of this movie. They are both fantastic and if you’re looking for a classic that has a modern twist I suggest checking out both of the movies. Again, this is a scarier one on the list, so if you hate clowns, again this is not for you.

  1. Casper Meets Wendy

Another kid movie because I am a small child a heart. Casper is the cutest ghost I have ever seen. This was a movie I always was excited to watch when Disney channel would play it. If you’re looking for a lighthearted fun movie to watch either by yourself, with a friend or boyfriend or with kids this is the one. It is the best family movie by far. It’s also a throwback with Hilary Duff starring in it.

  1. The Scream TV series

I know this isn’t a movie, but I thought I would add it to the list anyways. If you don’t know the icon Scream movies than this many not mean much to you but Netflix rebut the series but as a TV show. The TV show came out last year and I love it. It doesn’t follow the same pattern as the original Scream movies from what I remember but it is a really good show independently. If you like creepy mystery shows like me then this is perfect for the Halloween season.

So, these are my top five recommendations to watch before Halloween this year. I have a bunch of other special mentions like the new Sabrina The Teenage Witch series coming out later this month. I can’t recommend it yet because I haven’t seen it, but I have a feeling it’s going to be so good! I also want to mention, all the Saw movies, Hocus Pocus,  Chainsaw Massacre (Which is getting a reboot), Halloween, and even Harry Potter.

Bath and Body Works Haul / Fall 2018 // Blogtober Day #3

Hey everyone!

I’ve done it again…ought way too much Bath and Body Works! I know, I know it’s a problem. I promise that this is not sponsored. It would be fantastic if they wanted to sponsor me with how much I buy their products but alas no luck. Since fall as rolled around, I needed to get my hands on their new stuff. I had over 2000$ of their stuff in my cart online. I decided to go in-store and check it out in person. I’m a bit picky when it comes to scents during this time because I hate vanilla! Vanilla always seems to be a fall scent that is overused. I hate vanilla so much I think I have a trauma associated with it or something.

Unfourtantly, I was a bit disappointed in the selection at my local Bath and Body Works. They didn’t have everything on the website. Also, most of the scents were vanilla based, yuck! It didn’t help I had a bad cold and couldn’t smell very well. The employees, though I know it’s their job, but they were extremely pushy. I hate more than anything in the world when employees try to put products on you. I don’t want it! I have sensitive skin. Though I never get reactions from their products I’d rather be the one that makes the decision on what goes on my skin. It’s as if they have no concept of allergies.

Anyways, enough with that and on to the haul. I only picked up 5 things and it cost me like 80$! I got the whole pumpkin picking collection so the cream, shower gel and perfume. I also got the pumpkin enzyme gel moisturizer and the thousand years candle.

The pumpkin picking collection smells so good. It was the only one that smelt the least of vanilla or something I already had. I really wanted something that smelt of pumpkin. I love pumpkin and feel it is super fall. I believe I’ve mentioned this before in my Zoella Beauty 2018 Christmas Collection video, I associate different scents for different seasons. This collection is perfect for the fall time.

The pumpkin enzyme gel moisturizer is the best thing I’ve ever put on my skin. It just feels so good and makes my skin feel so soft. It’s even better than their usual creams. It kinda has a weird look to it that makes you think it’s not a lotion but it is. At first, I was scared it would be sticky because it looks exactly like caramel. It seeps right into the skin hydrating immediately. A lot of people say that it smells of sweet pumpkin but I feel like it smells more of apples and pumpkins.

I own the thousand years perfume and I have adored it for a very long time. It used to be my go to before I got Rose, which has been mentioned in like 5 monthly favourites. When my boyfriend picked up the candle and said he liked it, I knew I had to get it. It smells incredible and just warms up the whole room. I hope that the candle stays around because it is quickly becoming one of my favourites.

My Monthly Loves / September 2018 // Blogtober Day #2

Hey everyone!

It’s already the beginning of October. I can’t believe it. It feels like the month flew by. Since it’s the end of the month, everyone knows what time it is. The flood of monthly favourites are coming out. I have to admit I don’t have many favourites this month. I have been sick a lot and not really doing anything it seems like. Does anyone else get that way? If you’re not feeling well you kind of just don’t really do anything with your life? You just watch Netflix or YouTube all day? Just me?

I don’t have a lot of physical things this month I realized as I was prepping this post. I also only have 4 things to share with you guys. Sorry 😦

1.Bob’s Burgers

I’m pretty sure last month I talked about Archer. This month I am coming back with another adult cartoon. I have had a thing lately with adult cartoons. Bob’s Burgers is just easy to put on while I’m doing something else or just trying to fall asleep. I don’t know what I like so much about it but it just keeps me entertained. I’ve already watched 3 seasons. I find the characters relatable and funny. There’s something about it that reminds me of exaggerated versions of people I know. I recommend it if you’re into adult cartoon humour.

2. Fall Candles

I bought these so early in September. I got them from Winners for 3,99$ each. They got me so excited for fall. I’ve been burning them so much not only for how good they smell but also the atmosphere they give off. Both my boyfriend and I like the lighting candles give during the evening in our room. Also, our place traps smells so badly and I hate Febreze. I feel like it’s too strong and I have a hard time breathing when it’s sprayed. So candles help a lot. Winners is a fantastic place to get seasonal candles. I will be picking up more soon.

3. Tati Westbrook

So I started watching Tati on YouTube this month. I think I just binge watch people for a month straight. I’ve done it with so many channels. For someone who is horrendous at makeup, I love to watch beauty gurus. I was also looking for new people to watch because I was over the drama that surrounds the beauty community. I found Tati and loved how drama free she is. I also love that she’s not about promo codes. She uses a lot of affordable makeup. Honestly, she is a breath of fresh air.

4. Tumblr

I am back on Tumblr! I have a Tumblr dedicated to fitness. Since my post about feeling a bit insecure about my physical appearance, you can read that post here, I decided to try and create more healthy changes in my life. I use my Tumblr to motivate myself.  I get food and workout ideas. I also love the community. You just have to be careful with the eating disorder triggering things on Tumblr. There is an awesome healthy community though if you’re just looking for that push. You can follow me at the-nerd-girl-health.tumblr.com.
