YouTube has been a huge topic lately with a lot of YouTuber’s coming out and saying it’s not like how it used to be. With Adsense cuts and a warped trending page, is there a way to become a profitable YouTuber now in 2018? So this is an open letter to Youtube about how they need to change.
It doesn’t take much to make a YouTube account and post your first video. Even the iPhone has relatively good quality and makes great videos. The problem that comes with posting your first video to YouTube is the courage it takes to expose yourself online like that. You are giving the internet, the world, ammunition to critique you and judge you for your opinions and flaws. Unfourtantly, there is another underlying problem with YouTube that has popped up recently that are outraging the YouTube creators.
Becoming a YouTuber has become harder than it ever has been with people uploading millions of videos a day. Everyone is trying to get famous. Regardless of it being Instagram famous, Youtube famous or even Twitter famous. People want their 10 minutes of fame. Even if that’s not what you’re in it for there are really cool perks for the people that have “made it”.
It’s almost scary to say how hard it is to get where you want to go with YouTube. It doesn’t help that YouTube is doing it to its own creators. Adsense is currently very low for a lot of YouTubers making it hard to make money. That is especially devastating for those who do it full time. According to them, there is an algorithm for how videos are shown up on the Trendy Page and when you make a search. To many YouTubers that is bullshit.
I have to agree with a lot of those YouTubers. They have no idea why some of their videos are not making all the ads that they should be. They also are scratching their heads as to why their videos don’t make it on the trending page when certain YouTubers are always there. There is also a conversation about TV shows and company YouTube pages making all their Adsense. It leaves the question of what are YouTube’s real intentions.
Though a lot of people have been scared to talk about this I am only but a small Youtuber and have nothing to lose. I believe with a full heart that YouTube has no interest in helping YouTubers build careers. I think that phase of YouTube is coming to a close. If you’re a small YouTuber and are hoping to make it your career one day the chances are low and it’s all about luck at this point.
I have been on YouTube for almost a year now full time, as in uploading every week sometimes even twice a week. Well, my YouTube channel has gone almost nowhere. It doesn’t matter if I am using key search topics or beautiful thumbnails or popular video trends. My videos go nowhere. The only people that watch my videos are my friends and family or people that just so happen to stumble on my blog or twitter.
It’s frustrating. I know everything comes in due time but sometimes I work my ass off and I don’t get the credit. There are ads on my videos that are run by Google which owns YouTube. This basically means that Google owns my videos and have every right to make money off them but I don’t. Nothing has angered me more in my life. Back in the day, all you needed was 20000 views to make money off your own hard work. The outrage when the rules were changes to almost impossible standards for small YouTubers fell on deaf ears of the YouTube community. I see YouTuber’s every day talking about leaving the platform for other ones in hopes of making the money they deserve.
I wouldn’t care if there were no ads anywhere near my video because then it’s fair game. I own my work and I have to work up to get ads. Google making money off my videos, now that is where I have a problem. There are problems with videos not showing up in on your subscriber’s page there are problems with ads being taken off perfectly acceptable videos there are problems with the trending page being an absolute lie, there are so many problems and YouTube just doesn’t care. They will do anything to make money off the backs of their creators even if it kills them.
I believe everyone should have a right to ads on their videos even if they aren’t making much or anything. The videos were created by people that put so much time and effort into their craft. Google didn’t do shit to deserve that ad money.
I just wish that YouTube would take their creators more seriously before everyone decides that it’s not worth it anymore. YouTube used to be a place of dreams and community now it’s about a money hungry company. I took a long break from YouTube deciding if it was really worth my time and effort just for a company to profit off of me. I decided to upload videos again only because I realized I missed it, I enjoy making videos.
So this is an open letter to YouTube asking them to reflect on all they are doing. To see that their creators are fed up with how they are being treated and maybe strive for a change in terms of their Adsense laws (Which are bullshit and the only person profiting is them). They need to remember that they would be nothing without their creators and it’s time to give back to them.
